Snap Ring Pliers

I'm in the market for a good set of snap ring pliers. The kind for rings with holes, something for common size rings.

I like the kind with interchangeable tips, and want to be able to buy replacements.

I want a set for internal, and a set for external. I don't like the reversible ones, too sloppy and the angle is wrong on the tips.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I bought one with interchangeable tips. I believe it was a Lisle brand. Kind of a heavier built unit.

Go to amazon.com and type in snap ring pliers. Lots of good choices available.

If you get that set in your hands you will see why they cost so much they are heavy duty not some flimsy garbage you normally find.. They bad arse...

I have several sizes and some have sets do have different sizes of removable tips. The one I like the best has a pin that will change it from inside to outside snap rings with a ratchet lock. A few months back I had to remove a 4 inch heavy snap ring on a 400 ton plastic injection press. I didn't have as large of pin inserts as the holes in the snap ring but with the ratchet lock I got it off and back on. I have had them for years. I did an Ebay search under ratchet snap ring pliers and didn't find the type I have. Everything I found was not as heavy duty as the one I have.

I have several sets with interchageable tips. Most of the time they are unuseable because the part that holds the tips in is too big, so I can't get the tips down to the snap-ring and into the holes. Recommend getting a set that has the basic sizes/shapes you need, then figure on adding a few as oddball jobs come up.

Glennster I have a full set of Mac snap ring pliers that I have had for over 30 years. They are worth the money to me.

Thanks everyone!

I'm watching a used set of Macs on Ebay, an auction, see where it goes.

I like the reviews on the Knipex. Haven't heard of them before, may check on them.

Wish I could justify the Snap On's, going to try to get the company to buy them, I know they won't spring for that amount!

BTW, I have a set of the big ones. Bought them at an Army Navy store about 40 years ago for working on OMC stern drives. They still come in handy every now and then. Amazing I have managed to keep up with them!

Thanks again!

steve if you get the mac ones, they are lifetime guaranteed too. i have some mac drill bit sets and they will replace any broken bits free of charge.
