Hydraulic oil

I need some expect advise,on my 454 when I drained the oil out it looked like dish water, I cleaned the screen and flushed it out good and put new oil in. Now it looks like hydraulic oil but it has a milky color to it. I've been running it and then draining it down and cleaning the screen and refilling it with the old oil, the screen has trash on it but not really bad. I'm wondering when I do it again should I put new oil in it?

It is difficult to get rid of all the moisture. Several flushes with new oil are required. Good thing is you can use cheap oil for this. Rural King had 303 for $14 for 5 gallon bucket last time I was there. change it out, take the tractor for e spin down the road in high gear, drain and fill again. When it;s clean refill with Hy Tran.

Yes, I would change it out to new oil. If you can get some hours on it, working it hard, the little amount of water left will eventually boil away.

Any idea how the water is getting in?

CRAP!! The CHEAPEST oil in our little burb is 32.99!!

Sir.thats something I don't I do know that the tractor has been setting for a long period of time and it set out doors, it has less than 1700 hrs on it.

My local Orcshen's has the 303 UTF for $24.95 all the time and once in a while on sale for $19.95. O'Reilly's sell the same stuff for $45

I used to save the old HY-TRAN from our 60 series IHC tractors. I'd leave it in 5 gallon buckets, covered to keep it clean, then after it froze save the good, clean oil. The water was a big chunk of ice. gm

Same problem with a leyland. All that water in the oil stops the hydraulics from working when using the tractor for snow plowing. What I do is drain all the oil into 5 gal, open top, cans. Boil the water out of the oil on an old junky propane camper stove, outside, in the field. There's a fire risk so keep it away from anything. A deep fryer thermometer helps monitor the caldron from hell.

I think I changed it three times in my Fiat built Oliver before it looked clean after running it for a while.

No. After I got it clean, the hydraulic pump went out. LOL
I guess the damage was already done. Works great now with a new pump.

If it has water in the oil use 1 can of sea foam HYDRA TRANS TUNE per 4 gallons of oil in the tractor. Work the tractor getting the hydraulic oil up to temp. Then drain while hot. The sea foam HYDRA TRANS TUNE will get water out that's trapped on the walls and other places. When you drain let it drain for 24 hours. I had to do this on a Farmtrac 80 that had a leaking shifter boot. Tried just changing the oil still had milky oil. Got the water out with HYDRA TRANS TUNE then put new oil in after boot was replaced and no more milky oil.

Tractors can get moisture in the oil setting in a shed just as easily as out in the rain. You need to figure out an exercise regimen for that tractor. Put it to work on something that takes a little power and in an hour or two the oil will be cleared right up.

Went up a couple bucks, Rural King Marion OH yesterday

Sure sounds like you have water in the oil. My experience says water in the oil really wears things out fast. Water is not a lubricant in this case. I would never consider putting that old oil back in anything. It is shot.

My advice is to get that oil out immediately and replace it with new, preferably what the manufacturer recommends. If you think you need to do a flush I liked the comment below to replace first with a cheaper oil and then go to the good stuff. Of course do all the filters also.

And of course figure out the source of the water. Does it sit in a shed with a dirt floor or even a concrete floor without a vapor barrier? Does it sit outside?

Good luck.

We ordered our last JD Hy-Gard from greenpartstore.com, cheaper than Evergreen and outside my door in 2 days. L&M has generic hydraulic oil
very reasonable.
