Rhino/Service shredder

I have a rhino/service 15ft batwing, 1000rpm. I had to replace input seals and found out that the threads on the input shaft are bad on one of the side gear boxes, won't hold a nut under pressure. I have re-chased the threads with a die and still no good. I bought this thing about 22 years ago. there is no manufacturers plate on it. I have a casting number on the main gearbox (65-103-1) and a casting number on the one of the side gear boxes (65-104-1A) I am looking for a new input shaft. I have called a dealer and they don't have any information based on the casting numbers I have given them. I need help. I talked to a machine shop about re-cutting the threads and they gave me an estimated cost. I have found a gear box online that looks like mine, the a new shaft is $260.00 plus shipping. I don't want to order unless I am sure the shaft is the correct one. Based on the cost the machine shop gave me, there would not be a lot of difference between reworking the old threads and ordering a new shaft (based on what I found online). Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance

This may be of no use, but I have an old dual spindle 8 ft & some years ago determined that Austin Industries of Dallas TX made it & that Austin Ind was absorbed by Service/Rhino. At that time I was able to find pretty good info from them.

Just a few ideas that may or may not work for you.

Rethread it to a metric size a little smaller and change the nut?

Install the nut then drill it for a roll pin?

Put it together and weld it, if the shaft is not useable anymore what have you got to loose, might hold together for another 22 years.
