Carbide tooling buy

Went to a junk yard today and bought carbide tooling [ mostly end mills ] for $8.50 per Lb. I did not know it weighed twice as much as steel. I thought I had like 3 lbs. worth until he weighed my stuff. My hundred dollar bill turned into 95 cents change with the sheet of aluminum I got also. The Junk Yard guys called it Tungsten. If they are all carbide tools I don't think I did too bad. I had nine pounds of tooling.

Yes, carbide has real high scrap value.

One of our customers sold some pleated paper air filters from their dust collector that were packed with carbide grindings. Got some outrageous amount for them.

Never would have thought about it, I would have probably thrown them away!
