I could use more rags then I generate....Back when I was in the Navy we would get bales of rags from somewhere, they were about 2'x 2'x 2' tightly bailed and bound with wire anybody know where a person could find such a thing? Thanks Craig

Here's a possible source. They mention as low as $0.18/each when bought in bulk:

The first result that came up on eBay figures out to be just over $0.15/each with free shipping:

From Amazon at $0.12/each, for 1,000:

Also from Amazon, at 16.5 cents each per 100:

Yes, clothing scraps is what I was referring to.... Not sure in my neck of the woods that electric supply places would have that. Thanks, Craig

Kcm, those are fancier than what I was looking for, just clothing scraps like when you cut up a old tee shirt or something..... Thanks for your help!

We have a commercial laundry that does a lot of medical(sheets, blankets) they sell rags, something like $7.00 a bundle(5#)

That's funny that us guys that use old clothes call them rags. I worked for a freight line 38 years and the last 10 years I work we could not call them rags and on the freight bills they where called wiping cloths. I got corrected a number of times for calling them rags.

I would deliver more Rags ( so called wiping cloths) into the RV industry of Elkhart and Goshen,Indiana in one week than all you guys would use in a life time. I couldn't tell you why we couldn't call them rags because I would get blooped on here.

The uniform/rag guy where I used to work would sell a huge clear plastic bag of shop cloths for five bucks. They were rejects and some I just tossed but some were like new. Think I bought that bag about 15 years ago and still got more then I'm going to get used, still use my worn out tee shirts too.

I have a friend that gets some from the hospital she works at. Not an unlimited supply but enough for me. Evidently after some amount of time they have to discard them. Maybe if you have a friend or relative working at a hospital they could help you.

I did some contract work for a manufacturing plant many years ago.

The place was a real dump, nasty, dark and dangerous.

The only rags available were textile scraps, all different sizes and shapes.
I quickly realized rags like that were a real safety hazard around moving machinery. Never knew when a long tail of cloth was might drop down while holding the rag!

For years I used cloth rags for mechanical work. I too needed more than I generated around the house so I washed them.

About twenty years ago, I switched to paper towels.

Haven't used rags for a couple of decades aside from the used towels that I use to wax vehicles.

I've gotten rags in 100 count bundles at Sam's Club for $16 and wash them at work. Also pick up rags folks have dropped/lost in the road, parking lot, etc.
