Craftsman sanders

I recently found a $25 Sears gift card I got years ago, and figure I'd better use it while Sears is still around. I could use a palm sander, or a random orbital sander of some configuration, or possibly a belt sander. Are Craftsman sanders any good now? I know how they used to be; what I'm interested in is finding out how they are now. (BTW, I intend to apply the gift card toward the purchase, not limit the purchase to $25.)

I would think they are as good as any other. Who knows who makes them, they just get whoever's name on them that buys them.

One thing to watch for, be sure it will take standard paper, not some special size that you have to come back to Sears for.

Some have Velcro paper. Convenient to change, but special and expensive.

I am thinking that Sears now has other brand stuff on their shelves. I would check out Rockwell, Porter Cable, and Dewalt as well as the Craftsman brand if I visited their store.

You're lucky Stan , every gift card purchased in Australia seems to have a 12 month sunset clause added .
Retailers love them , audits show that less than 60% of them are every redeemed .

Hi Charles; The savings offer that has an even lower rate of payback to the buyer is the rebate. With a gift card all you have to do is have it with you at the place you can use it, and then remember to use it. Apparently this is too much for me, though, because I must have eight or ten of them that still have a balance, and were still good the last time I checked. Rebates require action from the purchaser---action that can't be accomplished in under ten minutes, which takes a lot of the joy out of the promise of a three or five dollar refund check (which, by the way, usually comes in an envelope that looks like junk mail---I wonder why that is). The reason I can't ever seem to use the gift cards I have is because they're mostly only worth enough to make a down payment on what I want, and I probably wouldn't buy it at that place anyway. For instance, I have a couple of cards for Olive Garden that add up to just about enough to pay for lunch for one person. I can't imagine wanting to eat there alone, but if my wife and I go together it will most likely end up costing an additional $30. I'm just not a guy who's comfortable spending $40 or $50 on lunch when the occasion is that it's a week day and it's lunch time. Next time I'll try to be rich. This time I'm not.
