The old chain is a .325 pitch and the drive links have a 72 on them. If I buy a .063 gauge, 16" bar and chain will the drive sprocket need to be changed also?
Thank you

When you change pitch of chain you need to have the chain, drive sprocket/rim and bar nose roller all match.

If you are only changing the gauge, then you do not need to change the sprocket/rim.

I say this because your original chain you says has a PITCH of .325 and you want to go a new chain with a GAUGE of .063

I hope this helps.

Hello sde,

.325 is the drive sprocket and roller tip pitch. Most .325 pitch bars are .050. So if bar and chain are matched all is well, as long as the pitch is .325. Pitch is measured as follows: measure three chain links, divide by 1/2,

Guido.

Thank you, I can order one now and not need to worry about the sprocket.

Depending on any wear of the sprocket.

If you have to change it see if you can get one of the replaceable rim type

(quoted from post at 18:54:19 08/05/17) Hello Bret,
Yep chisel chain 72 links

Guido.

The "72" has nothing to do with the number of links. The drive link on the chain is marked with the chain design number, be it 72, 81, whatever. The number of links depends on bar length for a given chain.

Baileys.com has good prices for that chainsaw items. Look them up and give them a call. Now to get the wife motivated to chop wood next month. Hmm....

If the chain and bar are wore out you should also replace the drive sprocket. Go to dealer and get every thing that matches up.
