1978 Chevy blazer

I am replacing the fuel pump (3 hose pump)on my blazer(4x4, 350 engine). I am using a precision fuel pump from O'reilly's. The problem is when I get the pump mounted there is no room to clamp on the incoming rubber fuel hose, it is right against the frame. If I do manage to get the hose on it is kinked up real bad. Has anyone else had this problem? I have looked at several fuel pumps on-line and they appear to be all the same. The only way I can use this pump is the heat the metal tube and bend it up about 1/2 inch, don't really want to do this, but I am out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

NOT sure what you've got going on, a photo, or at least a part # of the FP would be helpful.

There were a MILLION Chevy Blazers and trucks sold in that era, and lots are still on the road without the need to heat and bend a fuel nipple.

Back in the day, I bought a 1978 Blazer brand new, and I wish I still had her and the little cutie that was with me when I bought her!

But I have been married to her second cousin for almost 35 years, and I have a 1976 Blazer to play with, so, what the heck!

Please post back with a photo, or at least more info, I'm real curious as to what you have going on!

I took a look at Rock Auto, and they show two different 3-line pumps for the '78 Blazer. The 4WD version (Spectra SP1007MP) has the hose connections pointing at about 7 o'clock and the 2WD version (Spectra SP1001MP) has them pointing at around 10 o'clock. That is, the hose connections on the 4WD point slightly towards the engine block.

I'll bet they sold you a fuel pump for a 2WD Blazer. Or maybe there's something goofy about your truck and you need the 2WD version instead of the 4WD pump.

I have a 1980 Chev 4X4 truck with the 350 and I replaced the fuel pump on it and had no problems. So is what you have the S-10 one or the full size one?? If it is the full size one it should go right in unless the motor mount is bad and the engine has fallen. That or they gave you the wrong pump. I got mine from O'Reilly's also

Took back the fuel pump and replaced it with the fuel pump for the 2 wheel drive. It looks like it will work. Thanks for your comments
