Lighting switch brands

I need to replace some 3-way switches because we repainted the walls and now they need to be white instead of ivory. I'm used to using Leviton or Eagle, sometimes GE. When I checked availability online at Lowes they had switches by manufacturers I'm unfamiliar with: Hubbell, Eaton, Lutron, and Legrand. Can you give me any information about the quality of these brands? Thanks.

I use a lot of Hubble and recommend them. Some of the LeGrand stuff at big box stores is light duty. Might be better grade of product at your local electrical supply house.

hubbell was usually specified by my electrical designers for draw bridge and marine facilities. Did not have any problems with them --seemed to last good

Huubble bubble bubble gum . Sorry I used to sing that while switching and plugging. Hubble is good .Legrand is good . There are different grades made by each .Hospital grade would be a plastic you can't break. Lutron I know more for dimmers than wall switches also good. Eagle is a cheaper brand but they probably make higher spec unbreakable outlets.

Stan a search tells me they all make spec grade receptacles. I provided a link to explain the different grades. Someone posted Legrand was cheap but the ones I had used were spec grade probably a better product that cost a lot more.

Hubbell and Eaton are quality brands. But as others have stated, all manufacturers make different levels of quality. Make sure you are using the correct amp rating for whatever you buy.

I don't have a real brand preference. All are UL approved, whatever that means, probably that the quality is there for liability purposes.

I'm sure there is some junk out there, like the ones at the Dollar store.

But for residential use, I generally get the cheap ones at Lowes or HD. Don't recall having any problems or having one fail. For commercial use, or high load, I'll check the amp rating, go with a better grade.

aybe just roller right over the switches/plates and then they will match the wall perfectly every time he/she paints. :idea:

JMOR;

My wife took down the heating system return duct vent covers from the hall ceiling and spray painted them to match the white trim. She did the heads of the screws, too. Nice job. I thought of hitting the switches with that spray paint. All it has to do is cover and not gum them up.

Huge difference if you care what your decor looks like. Good grief. I guess if you live in a shack it wouldn't matter. I replace every switch, receptacle and wall plate every time I paint as they are so cheap it is not worth cleaning or shining them, but I cannot stand to have them appear to be dingy,
