As a follow-up to that last post on "!*etc deer"

"Driverless car makers are discovering a unique problem as they begin to test the vehicles in Australia.

It turns out the unusual way that kangaroos move completely throws off the car?s animal detection system

From experience just wait till they get introduced to emus!

Had to delete my reply. I'm NOT a fan of the technological movement!! The more we rely on technology, the dumber we get. Before long, there will be no such thing as defensive driving as it'll all be done by machine/computer. ...So what's wrong with that, you ask? Look at it this way - ANY time we learn something in our lives, we use that knowledge/experience to work out other non-related problems. Yet the more of these problems/solutions get removed from our lives, the less we have in our "mental" toolkit to work with. It's dumbing us down, which IMHO is having a hugely negative result on the whole of mankind!

Critical Causes of Crashes Attributed to Drivers
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the critical reason for a crash was assigned to the driver in 94 percent of all motor vehicle crashes nationwide in 2014. These reasons were broken down into four main categories, accounting for various driver behaviors and instances of inaction: recognition error, decision error, performance error, and non-performance error.

AI, cars with auto braking will stop many rear end collisions. AI cars, once all the bugs are worked out will be safer, removing driver errors.

A cloud leak?

Isn?t that what we call rain??

One suggestion I've had was "Prince Purple Rain Super Bowl 2017" as theme music - I haven't played it

Even that is thinking small. What I fear is much larger than simply a skirmish between continents - or even within our own boundaries. It's with technology as a whole.

...I had a LONG post written up, and wasn't even near finished. Just replying to this would take something more akin to an article, or a chapter from a book! But this is YT - "Yesterday's" Tractors; not Tomorrow's Technology. ....Ok, ok settle down. Hey, you in the back row...stop cheering already! Otherwise I'll write that long post after all! 8)

Been a large number of crashes in our area listed in the newspaper seems like people a not stopping at STOP signs.

Mike,
Article is from a Lawyer, but facts are 94% of accidents are driver error, which includes reckless driving, road rage. Speeding and running stop signs if both reckless and rage.

Lately, I've changed my driving technique. If I'm driving in the middle lane and see a stupid speeder in my mirror, I'll shut the door so he can't pass me on the right and then thread the needle between me and the person in front of him.

I think truckers should work as a team, shut the door to prevent speeders from passing them at a construction site then cutting in front of them. Truckers team work would mean one trucker drives in the lane that is closing, keeping speeders from making dangerous maneuvers in front of them. Then other trucker will slow down and let his team mate get in line when road goes to one lane.

If the cops can't stop stupid people, we need to protect ourselves.

In my opinion, remove the human factor and we'll all be safer.

Well, yeah. I mean, what did you expect? In single car crashes you can lay it on the driver almost every time, including a lot of deer accidents where the driver was simply driving with his head up his backside. In multiple vehicle crashes it's always one f the drivers at fault. Outside of a rock falling onto the hood or a tree falling onto the road, it's almost always the drivers fault in one way or another.

I've been stuck behind a lot of trucks lately where they block both lanes. One guy pulls out thinking he has enough get up and go to pull around the other on a hill , but he doesn't ! or so it seems ? The long uphill grade on RT 30 out of Wooster is bad for this.

So, you think truckers should be the rulers of the highways? Are truckers demi-gods of some sort? I dealt with a lot of truckers and 95% of them were real good guys, but expecting truckers to have infallible judgement and to be able to somehow work in a team to control traffic is a bit much George. I think that's called vigilantism.

Cops are trying to stop the stupid, the morons, the idiots. But they seem to breed like rabbits and there're more of them than there are of us!

When that happens, I think this is an accident just waiting to happen. Cars line up bumper to bumper behind the passing semi.. I back off, give myself enough space in case something happens. One time on I 465 there was a deer jumped out causing a multi car pile up. I was lucky and went around all the mess that happened in the go fast left lane. I was in the far right lane.

I hope smart cars that can drive themselves wouldn't be tailgating at high speeds.
