install a SunTune tach

I bought this Tach at LeSuer. I found a diagram that showed that the tach wire for my 02 Buick is a purple wire with a white stripe. I ran jumper wires from the battery to the red and black wire on the tach. With the green wire attached to the purple/white wire, that is on the coil pack, it did not work. I then tried the white wire. Still nothing. Any suggestions on what I can do it get this to work?
Thank you

older tachs were made to work on older types of distribitors, across the coil.. and probably will not work on the electronic, high voltage types??? Do you know if its designed for electronic modules?

I found some info about DIS, Distributor less ign. system, and I wondered if this Tach is only for a system with a distributor, which is why I asked. I hoped that some one would have been able to say as much. If I had put it on my tractor, I bet it would have worked. Which is my next move, and if it works there, then I will know that it probably isn't going to work on the car.

may not work if old style( 60's) had a sun tach stolen from old chev truck where I worked, it didn't do them any good as it had a special transmitter box under the hood. same tach used with 4-6-8 cylinder just different box under hood.

You mentioned coil pack
I am guessing your Buick has a V-6, no distributor and 3 coil packs.
Even if you were to get a useable tach pulse off one of the coils it would only give you a reading 1/3 of what actual RPM is.

Your problem may be the wiring. Green wire to tac terminal,
white wire is dash light,
red wire is switched + 12V power,
black wire is ground.
