Oh so that is what the "updating my security settings before the update" e-mail was about. I received the e-mail this morning.

I very much wanted to stay with windows vista but it just got un-workable, web sites did work, my online banking would not accept it. Switched to a new computer and windows 10 in the spring....still waiting for what is so great about windows 10....?

wjy,

Have to check it out at work where I have Win 10... still Win 7 here because I tried 3 times, but could not successfully download Win 10 at home.

Mine updated 07/12 uneventfully. Didn't even know that it happened until seeing pop-op on screen.

What are you Vista users using for virus/malware protection?

Still keep the old Vista machine as back and MS no longer provides updates for Windows Defender or Security Essentials.

There is nothing for Vista.

So what's the problem with the upgrade? My windows 10 computer did an upgrade this week. Took maybe 30 minutes. My wife has an Apple computer and many times the upgrades take much longer. Never understood the attraction to an Apple computer.

I've heard that the latest upgrade is extensive and MS deems it necessary, hence the publicity.

For users that keep their computers up to date, it is seemless but it can be time consuming on machines that are not up to date.

In situation, I did not even know that it had happened, even though I put mine to sleep unless using it.

I'm still running an XP machine but this laptop is windows 7. No problems with either and don't care if Bill Gates doesn't support me I don't need him. Office 97 still works on both computers, as well as AutoCAD and my image editing software. Outlook Express still works on XP, but had to go to Live Mail on 7 and FireFox takes care of the web on both.

Don't run any anti bad guy software and don't need it. I do regular full drive backups and don't click links unless I already know where it will take me.

Refuse to be held hostage by an operating system. MS decided they needed more money and scared everyone into believing if they didn't move to Windows 10 their computer would self destruct.

I have been running Win10 on my new HP for three months and Iam not impressed. I disabled cortano and am not running a touch screen monitor. I still use a flip phone so touch screen is a no-no on the laptop.

I set my updates to be performed at 0200 in the setup, there's a reasonable chance I'll be asleep.

Ask Cortana "windows update settings", it will show you how.

If this 'update' is like the previous ones, Gates and his evil minions send it out to the Home Version users first. Then, when all the complaints roll in about blue screens of death, programs not working, and all the other screw ups MS is known for, they try to 'fix' it, then when it's pretty debugged, they'll send it to the corporate and Pro users.

Can't have them getting garbage programming after all.

I got 10 on a netbook 20 months ago, just a backup. But I don't really like it. First week it was on, it download 3+ gbs of junk from MS, burned thru half my monthly allotment....can't actually turn it off, so it will download when ever my hotspot is running. Moved it 100' feet from the hotspot and let the battery die before I can leave it in the house.

Vista users don't really need protection, the malware is mainly looking for 7,8, and 10 boxes; I've never run any aftermarket virus program for more than a couple of days. It so slowed up the computer and internet, that was worse than the virus.

In 18 years of net use, I've had 3 episodes of malware that really caused issues. To fix those, I reinstalled the OP and went on.

About two week ago I got some type of up or down grade. After it started I set my laptop on the floor and went to bed. The next morning it needed started was all. I had to figure out how do a coupla things different. Other than that not much problem.
