Ford 6.0 diesel

You do it by replacing the head gasket. Anything else is a waste of time and money, the 6.0s leave the factory with this issue built in.

I believe those had issues with head bolts stretching, if so, best to pull heads and install upgrade, or trade.

Depends on where it is leaking.

Compression related leaks, no.

But occasionally there will be a coolant leak to the outside of the head. Rare, but it happens. In that case it might work.

Are you sure it is a head gasket They do crack oil coolers and then dump antifreeze somehow in the exhaust . It has something to do with the egr valve also and they make delete kits for them.

The EGR coolers have been issues in most of the Ford models, I had one fail on 6.0 and one on 6.7. The exhaust on the newest truck is starting to smell sweet, so need to check that.

The 6.0 came from the factory with pressed in head studs, they pull out, very common. The fix is to put in threaded studs, about $6-800 at a shop.

They don't have pressed in studs, they had
bolts from the factory. Very common to
replace them with stud and nut setup, but
not really needed on a stocker if updated
Ford parts are used. Root cause of
headgasket issues on the 6.0 is EGR cooler
leaks the coolant down and the engine runs
hot. 6.0 has very little margin of error
for being hot. Also, FYI, you need to put a
3 in front of your quote. $6-800 will buy a
stud kit. Complete repair is about $3500.

econd that, senior master ford tech 10 yrs, 6.0 are great if your a tech, erg cooler started it, will need gaskets, use sinister diesel gaskets, arp head bolts, erg delete, if an 05 or later will need programmer due to celo for lack of erg change, update the oil cooler while your at it, I do all of it on side for 3500$ Dustya good luck

Dats a DEAL you work cheap...

Double Dat are take it else were.. I tell folks to take it to a guy that guy may be your and expect to pay 6K to upgrade every thing it needs at that time... Pay up fix it one time and move on with life, life will be good...

I don't work on them anymore and don't expect someone that knows what he's doing to work on them cheap... If it's gravy to you shopp it up whiles its available get what its really worth

Your shop must be in a pretty affluent/high
cost area to ask $7K for head gaskets on a
6.0. I run a legit, insured shop in a small
town, only use high quality parts, and can
make a good profit at $3500 on a 6.0 or
Duramax headgasket job. But I do have low
overhead and no employees. I loose some
diesel work to specialty diesel hack shops
that think they need to be cheaper than
everyone. I tell my customers before I
quote that diesel and dollar both start with
d for a reason. My problem with the diesel
"performance" shops is they seem to have no
clue how a modern diesel works outside of
what is in glossy magazines. They can hang
a wizbang part good enough, but when that
goes south, I see it.

I just don't want to do diesel work anymore so leave it for those that still have the ambition. I have plenty of gravy work so don't need a diesel to tie me up. Several shops that work on them have closed in the last few years they either did not charge enoufh are they are working for the wrong folks.

I can easily add $1000 plus more for maintenance items that need to be replaced using OEM parts... If you are not then you are not doing anyone a favor and taking on liability ( the state of being responsible for something) when you had it in your hand. It came to you starting its life with new OEM parts You are expected to repair it to out live original.

I don't see a thang wrong with getting top dollar for your work and going after every thing you touch. I certainly would not let a cheap arse get in the way of getting it... Its EZ for me to say that cuzz I have about had my belly full of wrenching... If you are comfortable with that cool that does not mean I have to be...

Is there a tuner on it ?
The 6.0 is an inflamed hemorrhoid and best avoided. Can be made driveable with a $$$ head stud kit,$$$ head gasket update and an $$$ EGR delete kit.

I do add on for maintenance. Last Duramax head gasket job left the shop at about $4,400. About $3500 in the gasket job, $900ish in
maintenance/front end work.

Good I can tell you are a top gun so I don't doubt you. Remember the support parts as I call'em when you are giving a price. Folks will take the general low price and shop till they find a low ball'er to find they will need a cosigner when they come to pick it up.

I miss out on major engine service because I price it out of the ball park. I keep enoufh work squirreled away I can pass on most of it.

BTW I will post some pix as soon as I get time to down load them. I picked up a Snap-on Counselor 2 with a 4 gas analyzer yesterday off cracklist for $250. Every thing works except the 4 gas it will not turn on so will have to open it up. I sure would like the 4 gas to check for combustion gas leaks
