Cambell Welder

I read a post online when I searched for information about a Cambell/hausfeld welder that a friend gave to me when he headed for a retirement home.

I googled and found a post from this site where another member got the same welder.

My question is about the welding tip. It's a Flus Core 80 wire feed, but the tip looks like something missing.

I have the hollow copper tip but it looks like there should be an insert to keep the wire centered.

Online has not been much help to see the inside of the tip.

The part you have pictured looks to be the gas shield which is so you can add gas to it. There should be a small screw in nipple that is just big enough to hold the wire and let it pass. Most any good welding place and even many farm and home places have the nipples and they come in different sizes for the different size wires. I have a hand full of them laying around that I got back when I welded for a living and we would throw out the old ones and put in a new one when we had a problem. I then took the ones I got and used a drill to clean them and then I can reuse them

As Old mentioned, what you probably need is the welding tip. The link below is one source, picked just to show the piece you're looking for, and you'll have to Google the welder's model and the wire thickness you're planning on using to get the exact one you need.

That looks like the diffuser for the end although I think mine has a bigger hole in it, then you got the little screw in tip numbered with your wire size. Mines a 85 amp Century I bought new over 20 years ago and it's my most hated purchase ever. It came with .035 wire and maybe I should try smaller but it will weld 1/8th inch and a little thicker, a whisker thinner will blow a hole in it. Haven't used it much, just put the 3rd 2 lb. roll of wire on last summer, good luck.

The third photo I think is the key to my mystery. The nipple as you called it is missing.

I'm a stick weldsman. This is a toy I was given and I didn't know anything about the Flux Core 80 as it's called.

I just felt something was missing even though I had never held a wire feed welder before.

I'll inspect the handle under the tip, the nipple is not there

Thanks to all,

I learned about them when I was working for Tracker Marine that takes the Bass Tracker boats. I worked the maintenance dept and worked on repairing the welder s etc so I learned the welders and all pretty good. I have one of those cheap HF flux core welders which I use for thin stuff but if I really want to weld something I use the welder type I learned on and that was stick

I had to live with flux core for a couple years at one job I had. They suck. A stick welds with less splatter. And less stink. Most of these dogs were 110V, so are very limited in power, the only way I could get it to weld 1/8 steel was with .040 wire because the .035 just wouldn't get the material hot enough. The 110V MIGs are almost as bad. Forget any serious welding if you don't plug into 220V. I get along just fine with my old buzz-box, but for a full-time welder MIG is the way to go.

I got a 90amp with a gas bottle, it runs .025" wire; I can't imagine trying to run .035"!!! That's way too big. Unless it's a flux core; those run .035", but most of it is the flux, the metal is going to be about like the .025" solid....get the small wire and tip and it'll work. Century makes good stuff.

I just ordered a set if contact tips. Thanks for the ID on the part.

Since I never use a Flux Core 80 welder I was in the dark on it's parts.

Thanks for the help, but I'm interested in trying it out when the parts arrive.
