sonic cleaners

Hello Everyone
I was thinking of getting a sonic cleaner for small carbs . used on lawn equipment . Does anyone use them or would itbe a waste of money.
Normally I use spray carb cleaner & air press. to blow it out . I always had good success doing it that way .

My brother and I bought 2. We started out with a small one because we were skeptical of its ability. They actually work very well. That discovery led us to buy a larger one that can hold at least 2 tractor carburetors. The sonic vibrations will help break up dirt, grease and very light rust on the part being washed. For us we use them mostly for carburetors but they also see lots of dirty, greasy parts from other farm machinery too. On carburetors it will help loosen up dirt that might have become stuck in the passages of the carb. After we run them through the sonic tank we usually blow them out with compressed air and reassemble. All the Carbs have performed well after their washing.

Ideally I like to get the water hot in the sonic washer and add some dawn dish soap or heavy de-greaser depending on how dirty the part is. Sometimes really dirty or greasy parts will need a few passes in the tank.

I like to throw a part in, set it for 30 minutes of vibrations, start, and go do other tasks. I'll come back, take a peak and if its done then good, if its not I send it through for another iteration.

WHAT IT WILL NOT DO: It is NOT a rust remover. It will not strip off the rust and leave a sparkling surface. You will have to do that via other means if you have heavy rust on parts.

Hope this helps. I might try to get pictures if needed for before & after comparison.

I've been using one for years.

Carbs, jewelry, eyeglasses, etc.

Dish detergent works for most items. ...HOT water helps cleaning.

I've also used white vinegar for lightly rusted items, followed by soap solution, then plain water, then dried with compressed air.

i had two of the units, thought they were going to really be cats meow for cleaning carbs. no longer have them, when reinstalled carbs had same issue. this shop pretty well just replaces with new now days because of time costs. lots of times its actually cheaper for customer than it is to try cook ,clean reassemble and hope fixed. otherwise its remove replace back out door.

I do small engines. Bought one because of the good things I heard they could do. It is now in the corner under a pile of junk. Back to air and spray can.

I have a small one for motorcycle and small engine carbs.

It works GREAT, but it's not a miracle machine. Some common sense is required.

Pre-clean with carb cleaner and a brush.

Mine is heated, I run it at 140 to 150 degrees. Plain water with a dash of Simple Green. A couple of 20 minute sessions usually does the job.

Afterwards, blow all the water out of it and then hit the passages with carb cleaner.

Just did two yesterday, worked perfectly.

No doubt they would work just fine. I'd certainly try it knowing what they do for jewelry and other things that fit in the bowl.

I have a small one I bought for cleaning gun parts. I use it for just about anything that will fit in it. I use Simple Green mixed 50/50 with water. Mine also has a heater and that makes grease come off a lot easier.
