tool box key replacement

Well, after 30 years, its time to move the craftsman tool box. Of course in that time I've lost the keys and I would like to lock it in the short term. I found replacement keys but at 7$ each and I need 3. So, being proudly cheap, does anyone have a source for craftsman keys? The Sears site was no help at all. Currently looking at easy keys dot com.

I'm assuming (therefore I'm probably wrong [color=blue:e1e2ebce5e]:-b[/color:e1e2ebce5e] ) that the locks are like those found on most other lockable items, from file cabinets to truck tool boxes to liquor cabinets. Do you know for a fact that these other keys would fit? If not, you might be better off getting a replacement lock with new keys.

Not exactly what you're asking, but I bought a set of three locks with matching keys from Sears. Solved the problem of finding the keys, plus I got six keys with the set!

Good luck!

That would be the way to go!

I did the same with my Snap-On set (well, the side box is Matco). Went down to the hardware store, bought three keyed-alike. Used some of the old fittings, a bezel here and a latch arm there. :D

Pull the locks out and take them to your local locksmith. Here it would be about $12.00. Prices will vary.

Thanks for the options guys. I haven't seen a lock smith around here in years. I went back to the Sears site and found lots of keys but nothing that fit this. Of course, the box has 3 different locks. Or at least the code numbers are different So, ultimately I went w/ EasyKey and the free shipping helped. Now to get it moved.

Slightly O.T. but just yesterday I was following a fellow who had his gigantic roll away tool box on a lawn mower trailer and apparently didn't know to lock the lids and drawers as you. He went around a corner and all the doors slid out and the box tipped over and right off the side of the trailer and all over the street. Took quite a spell for both of us to throw all the tools in the back of his truck and load the box, lotsa cussen too,,,

It's folks like that who ensure that lawyers will always have jobs - making sure every little safety and warning label imaginable will be stuck to everything under the sun. I'm honestly surprised there aren't warning placards on toilets warning folks not to stick their arms down the drain!
