Lifespan of power tools

Last week we were looking at new leaf blowers, and I noticed a big difference in the hours that they are emissions compliant. I would think that would be an indication of how long the tool would last, the cheaper ones were 50 hours, the Stihl is 125.

That jazz is for California is it not? Also do not use 50 / 1 mix. That is how you destroy engines. I don't even run 40, I run 36/1. everything runs happy.

You must have older equipment, the newer stuff likes 50-1. I have a mix of new to 45 years old equipment so I have been mixing 3 oz to a gallon (43-1) but the new one is going to get 50-1. If you buy a 6-pack of Stihl oil they double the warranty to 4 years.

I've been using 50-1 in all my Stihl and Husqvarna equipment and have never even once had an engine issue arise from that ratio. If somebody is destroying engines when using the required mix ratio, the odds are it's operator failure, not equipment failure.

When we went from 20:1, to 36:1, then finally (so far) to 50:1, we didn't change the piston rings, or the bearings, (OK well not very much anyway), we changed the oil. It's much better now. Using too much is just a way to clog the exhaust, expecially if you have a spark screen on it.

Did you get a new Stihl blower? If not I have a coupon code for $20 off any purchase over $100. It expires at the end of this month.

The concept of "emissions compliance" makes me gag. I am going to go throw a couple more gallons of used motor oil on my burn pile and make some smoke.
