Serious Trimmer Done!

Hello,

It was all in the carburetor. Water and dirt got in there, and clogged things up. Also after I started it if would not idle, and the governor was not existent. Now you can hear the string whistle. Needs a battery, but starts easy with the rope starter. My neighbor though can't start it that way. A new battery is in order, it is charging. Here is a picture of the string set up,

Neighbor had a Sears given to him. Seems to be a pretty good unit. Not a problem hanging onto lines.

Hello jaden,

I guess the neighbor knows that. Now running better then new, I am sure it will throw rocks. That is some heavy string going around!

Guido.

Hello RayP (MI),

I guess it is great for edge row trimming. The neighbor said the same thing. The string hardly wears,

Neighbor has one of those. He also has a 12 or 14" or so steel disc with chainsaw chain around the edge that goes on it. Pretty wicked setup. Only problem with it is you cant cut flush with the ground.

Hello RayP(MI),

I am sure the neighbor will let you borrow it, HE! HE! By the way I got paid three times. A thank you, a hand shake, and a glass of water. It was hot today when I took it to him. I'm happy, so is my neighbor,

Guido.

They'll do it in a New York minute and not blink as long as it's grass and soft stemmed weeds. When the stems get woody, it starts gnawing away at the string. The neat thing about them is that they cut like a sickle/drum/disc mower. I load my string in the lowest holes and cut about an inch off the ground. The string cuts the crop and lays it to the side. You just push right through it but you don't bog down like you do with a standard bladed mower.

Mine cuts flush to the ground or below, hard to keep it out of the dirt, beaver blade. I cut with the front, not side, to finish. Mine is 7 years old, step higher than the base model so it has the larger diameter wheels, maybe smaller wheels wouldn't let the front tip down as much?

Hello cowranch,

This one has big rear tires too. I just used it for a minute or two. It seems to want to lift the front. May be
its just me. Sure got plenty of power now. I will find out how is working when I see my neighbor,

Just wondering what you found on the governor? I was given a similar unit but the engine bogs down & nearly stalls when you try to cut any heavy grass. Haven't dug into it yet.

Hello Ralph, Ohio,

The governor was set real low, as in R.P.M.'s so engine could not come up to speed, and act against the governor with spring tension to keep up the engine speed. That is not your problem. Engine hunting is a fuel problem. So you have a fuel issue. You need to clean the carburetor jets. Some engines need only to have the idle jets cleaned to clear the issue. If yours its like this one, then you need to clean the main jet. I use copper wire strands. Twist 2 pairs and try, it should be enough. I use copper wire for two reasons. One its easy to make up different size and two it is soft so it won't enlarge the jet. The bonus is that the twisted wires clean the orifice real well. If there is water in the bowl gas will float on top of it, so little gas can get to the jet. Enough water will stop all the gas, and like this one NO START. Hope this will help you, good luck!
