Need to rebuild zama carb in stihl weedeater and found that the screw that holds the needle valve in place is a small size torx instead of a phillips. Guess i get to add another tool to the box.

look on ebay or amazon, the complete carbs are really cheap. my fs90r is in the shop rite now, prolly gonna need a new carb.

Hello Pete black,

A straight blade screwdriver with a strong tip may get it out. Even Phillip one may work. You are giving up too easy. A small center punch? Left hand drill? Find a way, then you will have the pleasure to toss it as far as you can throw it!

Did not give up easily, tried various items, even tried to shape a flat blade and a Phillips to fit, no go. Good excuse for tool shopping, maybe Lowes or HF. Probably found the problem though, missing the gasket under the diaphragm and dumping fuel into carb throat.

Those little zama carbs work great when they are ok. The older ones had diaphragms that disolved with ethinol. Have found many of them work even better than a Walbro. Cheap enough, buy a new one.

Agree with cost of a new carb, however i have the missing gasket and give it a try tomorrow. This is a $5 yard sale trimmer someone else gave up on.

After picking up some 1/4 inch drive torx at H-F I found I should have bought the rack of Craftsman at my local Ace hardware. The price was the same. I would rather have Craftsman but the H-F work fine. They also sell a folding set .

Hello Pete Black,

Good to hear you still at it. As last resort, I would not let it beat me! I'd drill the head of the screw, then she would come out,

gave up, purchased the tool. sad, stihl does not make rebuild kit for this carb, new zama carb only at
$44 plus tax. off brand carb is $19. which one?

Hello pete black,

I would go for the price. Both probably come in the same box and country of origin!

Get the model number off the carb. Stihl may not make one, but Zama surely does.

I was looking on line for a kit for my Husky saw, and found one for $23.00. Then I saw that a whole carb was $25.00

I'm guessing you have many old craftsman tools you like. Modern craftsman tools are simular or sometimes worse than harbor freight yet cost more than harbor freight
