what is this welder?

Just bought this welder at an auction. Does anyone have an idea what make and model it is? Are they any good?

I think you will find it is an old Airco. Airco made good machines. I have a Airco 251
Stick/Tig that has been a really good machine,but Airco sold out to ESAB years ago and
there are no parts for them.

A google images search tells me it is an Airco welder.

Airco called the MIG process "dip transfer". I have never seen one of theirs that wasn't orange, though.

Looks like a Mid-States to me, But can't see jack for electrode holder. Should be AC,DC straight, DC reversed polarity. If it has the jack I have same as new plug, cable and electrode holder. Ours was Dip stick 160 and went thru 2 of them. The control knob and switch at right top is spot timer for spot welds. (burn thru weld up)

Yep, Airco. I have seen the cases painted red&orange from the factory. My Mig is red.

Is Mid-State, Airco bought out Mid-State and their TriArc 160 is the same welder. Mid-State came out with that welder 1973 or so mainly for body shop use.
