need to torque head bolts on a fergie to-20. lower set near spark plugs are pretty restricted access. cant get a rachet and socket on, so will need to use a crowfoot wrench on the torque wrench. it will offset about 1 inch. if i need 75lbs, how much will the offset affect the reading?

et up another bolt that you can use the socket on set the torque to 75 then use the offset at a lower setting and if it is a click style keep upping until it is on the original setting. If the bar style see where it goes before the bolt turns and you have a close idea. Might work. The specs are important but there have been a lot of engines built with out a torque wrench.

the difference in torque factor won't be a factor. torque a bolt with socket. then put on crow foot and compare reading.

If the crow's foot is one inch offset, and you keep the bar of the torque wrench aligned with that inch, the torque will be increased above the indicated reading by the % change in length from the pull point to the socket square, and that length plus one inch. Thus if the handle was 20 inches from the center of the handle to the socket square, and you added an inch to it it would be 21 divided by 20 = 1.05 which equals 5% change in length and thus the torque would be adjusted 5% lower when using the wrench. A 100 ft pound spec would be 95 on the wrench. Jim

If you can keep the crow foot at a 90 degree angle to the torque wrench, you won't need to correct for the extra length. (Cuz there won't be any extra length.)

I couldn't get my crow foot extension on the Fergie head bolts, so I got one of these. (There are also homemade versions, but I'm not that resourceful. There are some threads on the Fergie Board on this topic.)

tom, those are exactly the bolts i need to torque. i pulled the head with box end wrenches, but now that i think about it, i need the torque adapter wrenches. i;ll look on amazon, i need 11/16 and 5/8 for the end nuts. thanks.

What's the 5/8" for? Mine were all 11/16".

the two nuts on either end of the head took a 5/8 to remove them. not sure if it was because of a clearance issue or what. this tractor started out as a good deal and then just turned into a money pit. the 2 previous owners threw a lot of money at it too.

Was it the nuts under the rocker arm assembly?

My TO-20 was a good deal, too, but it absorbed a %@#$-load of money for a few years. It's in good shape now, and should be for the next guy, when I don't need it any longer.

My email button is active in modern view. I don't know if that function on the YT board is working, but if so, please drop me an email.

tom, i use classic view, gguess im kind of a fossil. i opened my email here if you wanna shoot me an email. the two smaller nuts were at either
end of the cylinder head in the row you need the torque adapter on.

Glenn,

The proper tool is called a cylinder head wrench .

Some sizes are no longer available ( 7/8 ).

Here is a photo of some factory made and some custom

made.
