Driveway alarm recommendations?

Any one have one that works?

Have one which uses same motion detector technology as a motion detector light. Many falses, have done about everything I can do to aim, etc, with no luck. looking for one that doesn't false, but doesn't miss incoming traffic. Looked at one the other day that had a buried magnetic detector under the drive, and a wireless sender on a post. Seems like rather a pain to install. Want something cheap, easy to install, wireless would be good, decent battery life...

Any one have one they're happy with?

I had a few of those motion sensor devices in various locations. Dust from the road set them off. Blowing leaves set them off. Heavy rain would set them off, and birds, rabbits, squirrels, etc. would set them off. I took them all down, placed them is a box, and stored them away. Somewhere in the basement. I don't remember where. Maybe I just trashed them?

I've had pretty good luck with "Driveway Alert" made by Miltronics Inc. I don't hear very well, with this one, you can a louder sound to it. Animals will set it off, even a bird that flies by. Just mount it farther off the ground if needed.

I have a Mighty Mule. It was given good reviews by IaGary on this site a few years back. I am very happy with it.

It is wireless and I have not had to replace the batteries yet, pretty sure they are over 2 years old. You do have to shallow bury the sensor near drive as it detects metal objects passing by.

Thanks IaGary !

I have had a Driveway Alert for many years and it works great. The mass sensor is kind of a pain to bury but it is the best type. You won't get any false alarms like you would with a photo cell. You have to adjust the sensitivity on the sensor, but other than that it works great. The batteries last about 9 months to a year. I love mine. I even bought the optional "pager" that you can carry on your belt that i use in my shop. The only limit to any of the wireless alarms is the range. The range is typically listed as 300' line of sight. If you have any structures between the transmitter and the base unit, that distance is reduced. There are more expensive versions that use different frequencies and have a very long range, like a mile. I would not be with out a driveway alarm....

I have a mighty mule. No problem to install. Screw the transmitter to a post, throw the sensor along side the drive, plug in receiver in the house. Works great about 200 ft away.

I'm currently using a Chamberlain CWA2000 alarm system. So far it is the best one I have used. The batteries easily last a year.

We got one of these for my parents and one for my MIL. They loved it. It worked great. Our parents were in their mid 80's and they really appreciated it. MIL's kept going off one afternoon and she looked outside to see what the H#ll was going on and found her cows were out. Only about 12 cows but they sure kept walking in front of the sensor setting off the alarm in the house. So it does work...lol.

Been here 40 years and you could leave stuff out, doors unlocked and all. No more. Too many sticky fingers around now. I keep my gate locked. That's my alarm. If they get out and hop the gate "Phydeaux" (Fido) is on point.

We have a dog that announces when someone pulls in the drive. I asked the wife a couple days ago if she had the house keys, she said no she hasn't seen them for a few years. We don't lock doors. My shop is right down by the road and I do lock it but that's all. We haven't had anything stolen since a friend of a grand daughters stole some jewelry and money while a guest in the house. Our fine sheriff wouldn't even come out to take a report. Locks only keep honest folks honest.

The name of the game is to convince the thief that yours isn't the easiest target. Locks and dogs help bring that message home.

Further on driveway alert: not looking for it as an anti-theft device. Would take a full blown alarm system in several buildings for that. All I want is not to be suprised by people at my door. Bedrooms are on driveway side of house and easy for cars to get in and people at my door without being noticed.

Got a MIGHTY MULE at Menards today. This one has underground sensior. Going to take a bit of work to lnstall. We'll see how effective it is.

Furter, my dog is useless. If he does bother to stop hanging with wife's car, and wander to the driveway, he's satisfied with a good smell of visitor, no barking or anything. He has a fetish for cars, which we usually keep in one of the out-buildings. He's a 70 # Shepard/Lab/Husky mix, and should be a deterrent, but not him.

Chamberlain Wireless Motion Detector Alert CWA2000 Driveway Alarm System works for us. Follow the directions when installing. Line-of-sight signal. Loud alarm, can hear it throughout the house. Detector uses a 9 volt battery and they do wear out.

Our Airedale barks at friends, is silent on strangers......hoping they will try to get in the house!!!!!!
