Use for lag bolt

Looking through my coffee can of lag bolts today to find some for a project, I came across a few which I realized I couldn't easily imagine a use for. They fit a 3/4" wrench, had a shaft 5/16" in diameter (between the threads), and were 1-1/2" long. I'm sure that as soon as someone mentions a reasonable use for them, I'll slap my forehead and say, "Of course." But it's Sunday, and my plan was to take the day off, mentally as well as physically, so I don't want to work it out for myself. So, what's the answer?

Thanks for jogging my memory, Doc. That's essentially what they were for---securing 4X6 gate posts to the metal legs of fence post straps. I remember now that I decided to do it a different way---drilling all the way through the posts and using heavy duty nuts and bolts---so I didn't need the lag bolts. Funny that I couldn't remember that. Well, not altogether funny since I'd just as soon still have my memory.

We used to build hay racks of wood. We used short angle irons to connect the wood cross pieces. we drilled two holes for each beam, with the lag bolts thru the iron to fasten them.

Lag screws are one of those things you use once in a blue moon but when you need one there is nothing else. Unless storage is an issue I would keep them. I keep one of those plastic divided bins for lag screws so I can find them when I need them.
