Lincoln Ranger Kohler Command Overfill

Do any of you have experience with the Kohler Command motor in the Ranger or Bobcats and overfilling the gas tank. I filled mine up a couple of days ago, and went to crank it today, but it acted flooded, smelled of gas, and I immediately shut it down. I tried to restart, but the starter seemed to be in a bind. It is an original battery, but with the overfill warning--which I knew of and tried to avoid--what is the next step? I have consulted the manual and it simply warns--don't overfill! Drain oil? Gas? Did gas get to the oil and cause the starter to drag? This is on a Lincoln Ranger 250. The Kohler serial #4305401081. About a four year old rig.

Most likely the cylinders are full of gas. I would remove the plugs put a rag over the hole. Then spin it over.Drain oil and you should be ok. I have
gone through this many times

I call that fluid locking. Akin to hydro lock.) What's happening is the needle valve in the carburetor has allowed fuel to leak past into the intake, then through an open valve into the cylinder. Like Billy Shaffer said, change your oil and get the oil out of the cylinder and you should be fine.

ONE WARNING: It is possible and HAS HAPPENED that when you 'hit' the starter and spin the engine over with the sparkplug removed and fuel in the cylinder, a spark from one of the sparkplug wires can ignite the fuel. And let me tell you. Its no fun having a burning puddle of gasoline on the shop floor!

I tried the open spark plug holes and it slung out very little gas. The motor turned over fine and did not act like it was bound up. I will drain the oil today. Should I go ahead and crank it with these results? Thanks.

I tossed my cap over the fence and went and got it. I changed the oil and cranked the machine tonight. Ran like a champ for about 15 minutes. I also on the advice of another installed an inline on/of valve to prevent this from happening again. Thanks for the advice.
