How about this lost tool.

I just got this 47 Studebaker pick up. I wonder how long they looked for the screwdriver they put in the back of the side rail. Now up to cab.

Looks like you have a nice new screwdriver as soon as you get it out and clean it up. Would it happen to be one of those Stanley three lobed handle ones? They are the best. Just picked up another one at a yard sale for $1, it is the round shank, I prefer the square shank, but never the less it is brand new, still had the sticker tapes on the shank.

I've heard stories about disgruntaled auto factory workers putting loose nuts inside doors, never heard reports of screwdrivers.

The guy that did that probably put someone else's screwdriver in there. That sort of stuff goes on in assembly line production.

My Dad worked at a dealership years ago and had a customer complaining of a foul smell in a new station wagon. It was one of those Estate Wagons with the disappearing tailgate that had a huge compartment in the floor for the tailgate to retract into. Dad found a lunch box with a couple rotten sandwiches in it. Had to take the entire back end of the car apart to get to it.

Sure makes ya wonder don't it? The mystery of disappearing tools!
Post a picture of it once you get it out. Be curious to see just how many times it has slid back and forth in that box rail. Could be a lot of miles on it if its been there since '48!

In 1963 at age 16 i bought a 54 ford with the overhead valve engine, several months later i was working on the engine and on top of the intake behind the carburator lay a pair of slip joint pliers. 54 years later i still have them.

Forgot to add, how about a pic of the truck? I traded a 47 or 49 studebaker car in on the 54 ford. Still have the bill of sale showing the trade.

Picture on trailer once I got it home. Someone apparently started to build a ratrod, put a 283 in it. Not hooked up, I may go original as it is solid and not cut up yet.

Nothing wrong with the 283, but that Stude is too nice to modify in any other way. Fix what is needed to make it road-worthy, and then just drive it.

Bet some kid sure caught H. for loosing that. LOL Nice Studi by the way. I took my drivers test in a Studi stock truck loaded with sheep. I was only 15 and we lied about my age. I was helping a neighbor & he got drunk and talked me into stopping and taking my test. When the trooper got in the truck he asked me if I'd been driving the truck and where we started at. I told him (which was about 30 miles away). He just got back out (don't think he cared for the smell, and handed me my paper. Dad was NOT too pleased with the neighbor for that episode. The neighbor was in his 60s so he knew better. Keith

Nice old truck!

Reminds me of this claw hammer (and marbles) I found at the bottom of a wall cavity in my house last year. Built in 1918. Hammer could have been lost by original carpenters as the head was at the bottom and the dust/debris was several inches deep over it. Too bad one of the claw tips is broken off but its still a good hammer.
