?? Concrete Anchors

I bought some 1/2 inch concrete anchor bolts. The type with the nails in the top of them. Is there any secrets to putting them in. I drive the pin (nail) in as far as it will go, which is not far, and when I tighten the nut the anchor just pulls up. unless I am doing something wrong, I am going to drive 50 miles and take them back.

The best concrete anchors are those that have a bolt going down in them. Some come with (2) lead-looking parts around the threads and the bolt is actually a lag bolt; coarse threads, like for wood. Others have a thin metal sleeve with 2 or 3 holes in the middle of the sleeve and with a coarse-thread bolt going down the middle. As you tighten the bolt, the sleeve pulls together and bends outward into the surrounding concrete, much like drywall anchors do.

One thing I've found when drilling concrete is that I often have to choose the next smaller size drill bit if I need a certain sized hole. These carbide masonry bits usually create too bit a hole. Course I'm no expert, so maybe I've just been using them wrong all my life. *lol* ...Which hasn't been that often, as I rarely work with concrete.
