tread mill fuse

I have a treadmill that has a blown fuse. numbers on fuse ; 2 1/2A-250V and 2.25 2A6 it is .176 diam and .568 long. Where could I find one. Dealer wants $8. Thanks.

Any Radio Shacks still open up there?

Or online at Allied Electronics, Ebay, many others.

Did something happen to cause the fuse to blow?

If it just failed without cause, about a 50-50 chance it will blow again as soon as you turn it on. Unless it's still under warranty, might try just jumping the fuse, see what happens. If it runs, a fuse will probably fix it. If something smokes on the circuit board, well...

A fuse would not have fixed it. If it is something obvious, like a capacitor, you might could fix it, or just replace the circuit board. But if they want $8 for a fuse...

I think you see where this is going!

Last week I was looking for a fuse for our boat, 10 amp, 12 volt, glass, 15/16 long. Finally went to the dealer and he said we gave up trying to get those, and sold us a circuit breaker, $8. Looks like a good solution to me!

I have a question about fuses and circuit breakers, does the voltage matter? If a fuse is good for 20 amps at 12 volts, is it good for 20 at 120V?

Russ, yes the voltage does matter.

Automotive fuses are typically 32v, while some of the little glass fuses are 125v, most are 250v.

If you look at the element in a 32v fuse of say 10 amp, then compare it to 10 amp 250v fuse, you will see the element in the 32v is much larger.

I've heard it argued that "amps is amps" but that is not necessarily true when it comes to fuses and circuit breakers.

Working with industrial equipment, I've seen machines wired with 600v components, but operated on 240v. If any of the circuits are loaded close to the limit, they will begin to fail, false trip, or fuses blow because they can't handle the load at the lower voltage.

So it is always necessary to carefully check the voltage, especially with the small glass fuses, they are interchangeable, and look the same, but not the same protection!
