bench vice screw handle

I’ve got an old ‘yard’ vise... a Columbian D46... 6” made in USA

I got a wild hair and decided to clean it up and paint it... got it all apart and was removing what I thought was a screw-in ‘ball’ off the
handle and snapped it off... either it was rusted solid or not screw in... started looking for a handle and found lots with the attached main
screw... for lots of $$$

anyone know a source for just the handles ?? probably 1/2-5/8” diameter and about 9” long

tried Grainger and McMaster... no luck

anyone ??

Your post is pretty hard to understand, why the strange typing? A lot of stuff gets screwed up by people cleaning and
painting! Can't you drill out the broken screw and re-tap it?

Russ: it looks like it had some characters that Classic didn't like--probably the quotation marks, as it shows up fine on Modern. As far as the original question, this guy makes replacement handles, though they're kinda spendy: http://www.wiltonviseparts.net/spindle-handles/ . He could also try repairing it--garagejournal (one of the best spots online for such things--I've used LOTS of the ideas from there on my own vise and tool projects) has several articles, including this one and others you can look up by the same author. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134045 Another possibility is ereplacementparts--they have a lot of Wilton stuff that MIGHT cross to Columbian if you're willing to do a bit of measuring and digging.

Do you know anyone who can weld the piece back on? If so, you could smooth it down with emory cloth afterwards and be back in business.

wow Russ, I looked at it in Classic View and it is strange... I use modern view and just typed in whatever font it uses...something got confused !
