What could possibly go wrong?

Would be great for opening & keeping trails and fence rows cleared.............if I could just find an operator for it! :)

Can you imagine the trash that thing would throw? Hit a rock and, whoops, she swingin' around on ya. Of course I've never seen such a thing so maybe it wasn't intended to be used in the configuration shown.

When I saw the thread title, a cold chill went down my spine. But that soon went away when I saw the photo. ...Then I reached down to see if my feet were still attached! ACK! What a horrible display of "American ingenuity"! ....But it'd be a GREAT conversation starter, and would look wonderful in the middle of Geo's flower beds! :D

I'm wondering if there isn't something missing, like a guard with a hook to put behind the tree trunk.

Looks like it would be uncontrollable just trying to hold it.

How would you stop it from getting pinched?

Think I'll pass!

(quoted from post at 17:06:22 05/17/17) Gravely had a saw blade attachment.

They're not in business anymore, right? Hmm...maybe it's something to do with their name - [b:3edb37e87c]Grave[/b:3edb37e87c]ly? *lol*[i:3edb37e87c][/i:3edb37e87c]

That thing looks like a large String Trimmer that somebody removed the Guard & put on that big saw blade. Scary if that thing ever hit a large rock or metal sprinkler head while it was running.

Sorry to inform you , but they are still in business. They make walk behinds as well as riding mowers and attachments, but not like the saw blade due to Gov't restrictions. Keith

Gravely is still in business genius.

This is another one of those things that people who have never actually used, seen used, been around or even thought of using pass judgement on. Same thing with buzz saws, stickler type splitters, open geared trannies, flat belts, etc. There was even one member of the brain trust here who stated last year that "people fall into radial arm saws all the time and die and that's why no one makes them anymore", or words to that effect. Of course very few people have ever "fallen into a radial arm saw", much less died, and RA saws are still made and sold today.

Sometimes I wish there was a little more restraint exercised here.

Never saw one with the curved shaft, but belt drive models with a set of pulleys to drive the wheels between cuts used to be common in this area 40 to 50 years ago. A man that knew what he was doing could cut an amazing amount of brush in an over grown field with one in a few hours.

I saw a similar one used several times by a guy clearing brush from a building site. It would clear heavy brush PDQ. Didn't really look to be too dangerous to the operator.

They aren't. Obviously you don't want your kids or the family dog running around nearby, but considering the number of people maimed and killed by the common riding lawn mower each year, I don't think you can outwit a determined idiot! I've used a similar attachment on a Gravely and it makes short work of brush and small trees. And it's much easier and, IMO, safer to use than the overgrown weed whacker type blade cutters. Maybe it's me, but it seems people are scared of everything these days.
