Metric Grease Zerk?

I bought a couple of grease needles made in the land of almost right. The zerk looks totally different from the normal ones everything else uses. I really had to force it to get connected to the end on the gun and after I was done I had a devil of a time getting it off. I had to pinch the gun end in the vise and use 2 screwdrivers to pry it out. Just for the heck of it, I measured a regular zerk and the one on the needle. The regular one was just a shade over .250 and the one on the needle was .275.
So, do I need a different end for the grease gun to use this needle? If so, where would I even look for one? Are there different sizes of zerks?? The replacement ball joints on my Dakota seem to be smaller than regular zerks, when I grease them, more grease comes out around the end of the gun than goes inside the ball joint. Has anyone else ran into this, or am I just not holding my mouth right? Chris

You are correct Chris. There are metric zerks. The ones I have run into are metric on the end you screw in the the piece of equipment. The end with the ball in it is usually the same as the us zerks. Your problem is probably where and who made the zerks. A lot of foreign made zerks are junk. I only buy name brand now. No more HF zerks.

I bought an assorted box of each from HF. Agree the connection point of either will fit any gun I own (5 last count).

It sounds like somebody over there was trying to get the last life out of some worn out tooling and made some oversize parts.
I have found that sometimes you have to unscrew the sleeve on the grease coupler to get it off some fittings.

Put each needle in a 1/4" drill (high speed) and touch the fitting against a spinning bench grinder, If you are careful it will remove just enough remaining metal to work well. Jim

Throw the box of cheapie fittings in the trash and order an assortment of fittings from McMaster Carr and your troubles will go away.

All my grease guns have ends on them you can unscrew part of it to loosen up the grip they have on fittings.
