Ford F 250 Diesel Turbo seals failed

2008 Ford F-250 Diesel has failed turbo seals and dealer says it is $4000 to replace as the cab has to come off. Does this sound reasonable? For a friend as it is not mine. Thanks for any input!

Sounds about right, cab comes off to do most work on these trucks

From about 2003 up you just about have to have the cab off to work on the turbos on the Ford diesel engines in pickups. I have a friend that has six of the Ford 2008 6.4 F250s. They pull great but are a maintenance nightmare. Any type of turbo problems and you at the least raising the cab up. Even just replacing the exhaust pipe between the turbos requires lifting the cabs at least six inches.

Here is what one looks like after the cab is lifted.

I agree with that - but finding "cheap" work for a diesel is an exercise in futility. TO do pretty much anything with the Ford diesels (and V8 gas engines) it seems like the cab comes off. They tucked the engine under the cowl and windshield limiting access.

Thanks guys for the input!

Is the Cummins straight six any easier?? Not that it matters in this case.

Appreciate the responses...

Yes the turbo is on the side of the engine and easy to get to.

A P47 Thunderbolt was huge just to have the room to run all the turbo ducting from the engine to the turbo and back; an F250 should have been just as big...

An inline 6 is a perfect engine configuration. Perfect engine balance, perfect access, perfect looks, perfect exhaust note.

A flat 6 comes close; a V-6 is another turd....like a V-8....
