abrasion resistance for hydraulic hoses

Hey folks,

I am looking for some kind of wrap for the hydraulic hoses on my backhoe, specifically the ones that come from the valves to the boom.

some have damage to the rubber coating but the wire and core are intact.

Thanks,

Brad

Brad: as mentioned, there are commercially available products meant for this very thing, but I've got by for years with old chunks of garden hose and zip ties in applications where functionality and economy were more important than looks.

Check out the Dura-Wrap sleeving at this link: http://www.boltonhooks.com/hydraulics.html I have ordered several pieces for the hoses on my tractor. They slip over the hoses and are secured by Velcro so there is no need to remove any hoses. This stuff is extremely abrasion resistant.

Saw an article some time back in Farm Show about a guy who made a cutting jig. He used the thinner black plastic water line and ran it through his cutting jig and ended up with some very nice, sturdy and inexpensive wrap.

If you can't find any, Contact coldwell bearing. They make my hoses and sell a protective sock you slide over hoses. I bought one after replacing a hose that got a hole in it by rubbing against the frame of backhoe.
Coldwell is my go to store not only for bearings, they have V-belts, hoses, hyd fittings, make bandsaw blades, flat belts.
Call them and good chance they will send you what you want if you pay with a credit card. If not, let me know, and I see what I can do for you.

Thanks for all the great suggestions and links. I will decide which to try and post some pics.

This is on my Ford 4500 TLB on which I did a complete rebuild on the 3 cylinder diesel.

Hi Brad,
Sorry to respond do late to this subject. I was looking for the same thing you are. I got an issue of Farm Show recently, and found a guy here in Minnesota that has his own manufacturing company and makes hydraulic hose protectors. I will try to attach the link for you to look at. Th website is called www.hosesavers.com Steve Raguse MFG. is the owner/operator of this company. Check it out. Hope this may help you sir.

Use One of the high abrasion resistant cover hydraulic hose materials branded Gates MegaTuff (MTF), Parker Super Tough (ST), or Eaton Bruiser. You can take it one step further and add nylon sleeving over the hose assembly. The plastic spiral wrap and wire spring guards are an option too.

If you can't find a hydraulic hose shop with MTF, ST, or Bruiser hose contact me and I can hook you up, I have reels of the stuff in my garage.
