Vapor torch weed killer

I'm thinking of buying one of those hand held propane fired torches. Have any of you guys had experience with Red Dragon 3" brand or others? Can't always use Round Up because of wind or rain.

not sure of the brands I have but I use them down here in Texas during winter time on lease pastures that have cactus to burn stickers off and the cows eat the cactus, work good for me.

I've been using one for years, just burned down some raised gardens with it on the weekend, excellent for controlled burns. Very handy in the winter as well. For large areas, round up is way more economical than propane.

Warning....... I used Round-up , very little , A few months later my family Dr. dianosed me with Non-Hosgins-lifnoma, Lyiqumia, now I have to see a Oncoligist , a cancer Dr. . I still have the 1 gal jug , sitting in my barn, about 1/2 used , now I have to get rid of the unused half but where and be safe about it.
If you have any health problems of any kind , stay away from Round-up, it will cost you more in the long run than a few weeds!!

I bought a Red Dragon last year to use on our 1/4 acre of organic veggies. It does a great job. Backpack is fairly comfortable even with a full tank of propane. Burned every 10 days, had great control, did minimal hand weeding and hoeing. Time savings was not as great as I had hoped over hoeing however it is a lot easier work than cultivating by hand or hand weeding. I also used it around the house including sidewalk weeds. Small weeds die, large weeds get angry and come back. Every 10 days between established plants worked well. Did a bunch of stale beds with it as well which worked good.

Give that 1/2 gallon to your neighbor.

They put out lots of heat and can use lots of propane fast. I use one to heat up steel before applying a patina. Also start fires and kill weeds with it.

I am going to go two ways with this reply. Fist off is the weed burner. When the neighbor died maybe twelve years ago his kids threw out all kinds of stuff on the curb. I grabbed a couple of things including an old weed burner. Works very well on purple death nettle, tent catapillar nests, paper wasps after dark. Get one with a piezo igniter. HF has that type for a little over 30 bucks. This is one of the neighbors little girls playing with mine. It is only 1/2 the way through a 20 lbs. Tank.. I really do not like round up. Never ever on your lawn. Can kill your pets and I refuse to use it. Now here is a litte proof for the Neyyyy sayers. Lazt week up at the folks farm one of those HUGE spray rigs came in and sprayed the two hay fields for broad leaf weeds. 2 4 D and something else in the coctail. Typical stinky chemical smell. The next day this huge buggger was laying in the lane not 10 feet from the field. You could see his trail where he crossed out of the field. MHO.

Been around for a while, couldn't find a video of older flame weeders, but this one shows how it can work. joe

I really think you are very uninformed, nothing pisses me off more than someone that knows nothing about what they are talking about all of a sudden is a expert such as a animal dies and its roundup why don't you educate yourself in herbicides and there use before making unfounded claims, you show a little girl playing with a very dangerous tool that can burn her seriously and you have no problem with that but then make ridiculous claims about something you know nothing about

I have made a few, very simple if you have the material, but if you can buy one for $30 go for it! I have never used one for burning weeds but I use it for starting brush pile fires, they can suck a lot of propane! I also use it for melting lead for casting sinkers, and just general heating.

Thought I needed 1 several years ago. Turns out I didn't, it has set under the bench in the shed for 10 or 12 years. Too heavy and bulky to carry around.

I have use round up on fence rows with cows in them and never had on get sick, also spray around the pond and never lost a fish. Comments like that is why the tree huggers are trying to ban chemicals.

We just had a prescribed burn at my farm. 168 acres and used one drip torch which is more mobile, but used two HF 20 dollar propane torches on 4 wheelers and the propane toriches are the best way to light up the woods. It was the best burn in 20 years. And will heat cast iron so that it can be properly welded. Well worth the money.

I heard my Grand Dad say the following about a thousand times!! "Just because lunch comes after breakfast does not mean that breakfast causes lunch". It sure stuck with me.

Very sorry to hear of your illness and hope things work out well.
