Makita Drill Chuck

It's a Jacobs chuck and probably does use UNF threads rather than metric, but not certain. Replacement chucks are no longer available. However, these have always been hard to hold tightly to in order to tighten the bits securely.

If it were me (and I may do this anyway with mine), I'd remove the original chuck, then take it to a home center such as Lowe's or Home Depot and then pick out a good quality replacement Jacobs chuck - one with better grip. If you wish, you could also switch to a keyed chuck. You could always go down their bolts isle to verify that it's 1/2"x20 threads.

I have no experience with other brands of chucks. There are several videos on YouTube on how to remove chucks from Makita drills.

I learned a little trick to tighten the key less chuck Put the forward/reverse switch half way in
between forward and reverse and you can tighten the drill or driver as tight as you want. Always
works for me..... Jim in N.M.

McMaster Carr look at the (I think) 33B series of chucks, these are not ball bearing but still a good chuck and a lot less money than a ball bearing chuck, and they come
in a lot of different thread sizes.
