I want to set up a Game Camera to keep an eye out of the equipment I leave away from home. There are enough trees around to mount it. I am looking for a descent camera that does not go through batterys, but I am on a budget also. Any recommendations?

I bought a Moultrie A7i from the local farm store for about $50 on sale a year ago and have been quite happy with it for seeing what's snooping around on the back porch or in the shed at night. Good daytime capture, good night capture, can save images or video. Not the greatest resolution but also doesn't break the bank. Takes 8 batteries and uses an SD card, but it doesn't seem to eat batteries.

Just how clear of quality do you need?

I have several different brands. I like the Moultrie. It is easier to set up, easier to install batteries, has a quicker response ( I think). I think I have the i990 model.

Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Aggressor series. 20 or 24 MP versions and even a wireless. Even has 100' detection range and 1 year battery life. I bought one a few years ago for the same type of issues your having. Got some good pictures of "turkeys" where they had no business being.

I picked up one at Wal-Mart not long ago. Payed $30 for it. Nice thing is about this one is if some one thinks they need it more then I do it is no big deal because it is cheap. Some of them cost well into the hundreds of $$. Plus this one does what I need it to do and can be hook up to the computer to view the pictures

I've been wondering about that. If there is a regular flash, a thief will know where the camera is and take the camera with him so he can't be identified.

I've always heard you should set up two.

The first where you want to take pictures and the second hidden to see who steals the first one.

I have only been using game cameras for a few years. Had a few bad ones (crapped out in year). Also had some that were hard to use. Or had bad battery life. Or had too many false trips. Reading reviews seems to be of little help.

I have two of these now and so far love them. Lots of really useful features for $82. Also great customer service. My only slight complaint is theses models use a micro-SD card. It is so small that if you remove it - it is easy to drop and lose in the brush. Overall I am very pleased with these cameras and are for sure the best I've had. I especially like the two peripheral triggers. I had a wildcat coming often and it was so fast my other cameras would miss it -or just get its rearend. These triggered in time and got us good photos and videos.

I have a Wild Game Innovations. I will give it a overall grade of C-. Difficult to program. Programming screen difficult to see. Pictures OK but no big deal. Night time pictures very poor unless deer is very close. Lots of gostly images. Battery life good. In it's defense it is an older model. I have three newer models in the packages. According to their literature better than old one. Someday, I'll break one out and we'll see.
