rockauto.com

Has any bought from r0ckauto.com.? I noticed their brand name oil filters are about one half of what I pay for them here.
Thanks for any help

I have bought parts from them. I just replaced all the glowplugs in my skid steer last fall and they came from them. They were the same brand as a local place but I bought all 4 for what 2 would have cost local

I'll probably generate some ire for this but I try to buy local when reasonably possible because it keeps our local economy going. The internet has closed a lot of local businesses over the years. I also recognize that money can be tight and the internet can help save money.

great folks to deal with, do be sure to check your freight charges when building an order,
sometimes it gets out of hand and makes it cheaper to buy local

Steve I have from them. So far so good. What isn t made in china today. I like their prices. Richard

I just bought a hub assembly, for the Ram for $65.00, $250.00 everywhere else. (Timken)

I have used them many many times. Have spent 5-7000 over the last 3-4 years. Have nothing but good to say. Being in Canada, and warranty being a pain, I typically order premium quality parts and have never had a warranty issue. They have always gotten the orders right, and typically ship on time. Parts are 1/2 to 1/2 of what they would be locally, and that includes shipping. The also have many OEM parts, and typically the parts that I would have been buying locally aren't as good of quality as the parts that I bought for 1/2 price from Rockauto. I can typically buy AC Delco Original Equipment parts for 1/2 of what MevoTech or whatever crap the local place has.

Should be parts are 1/3 to 1/2 of what they are locally. Meaning I can often buy 2-3 parts from RA for the same price as 1 part locally

Dont forget to use the discount code to save 5%, this one is the current one I got in an email.
Your Rock Auto discount code 5780461751541809 will expire on April 16, 2017. Put the code in the " how did you hear about us" box.
You can always Google " RockAuto discount code" anytime to get a current code.

A good tell of a merchant is when things go wrong. They sent me the wrong part because their supplier labeled the part incorrectly. They made it right.
Only thing I wished they did differently is instead of stating warehouse A,B or C, they would give their addresses. That's because sometimes an order takes two days and sometimes two weeks.

Have used them a bit here and there. Nothing but good to say. I like how on most itmes they give you your choice of brands for the same part. Have a boatload of parts coming from them this week for our '72 beetle restoration.

I've tried that over the years but when I drive 20 miles each way only to be told that we don't have that in stock but will have it tomorrow....at 4 times the price I can get it off the internet and only have to wait an extra day for it, it becomes difficult to support the local business. It should go two ways. If they don't have it they should be willing to ship to my home (I pay shipping) but most won't. If they won't support me, why should I support them?

David, You will not generate the TINIEST bit of ire from ONE SINGLE person on these forums for buying local. It is what America stands for. The land of opportunity where anyone can start their own business. I mention frequently in my posts about doing business locally. Most of us do need to watch our spending though and we will buy on line also.

I have used them some. I'm not so sure on their lookup as some things I can't find they surly sell ? When I put in my specific vehicle I get a lot of choices that are not for mine ? Then also a lot of different brands and not a lot of info on them. One time I changed my brands around to try and get more shipped from the same location, but that didn't help as it got split up maybe because a certain place ran out of stock. If you can plan ahead, which is hard to do for breakdowns, you can get some super killer deals on clearance items. I once saw a savings of about 1/2 price of local stores on the same exact Dorman driveshaft for Honda CRV.
The locals sure are getting expensive ! I am shopping more and more online as are most people.

With the low Canadian dollar, duty, and shipping, doesn't the price work out closer to the same as buying parts sourced locally or even provincially?

They are great for me. Once they have your vehicle on file they send you closeout sale info where parts are extremely cheap.

The local stores usually don't stock what I need. My hemi takes 16 spark plugs. They usually have 11 on the shelf. I've wasted so much time driving to all the stores and being told it has to be ordered. So I order at home and recieve it at home.

Rockauto has worked well for me. I liked car quest until advanced bought them. Now it's the same worthless service as the other stores.

I've had great service from Rock Auto -- both price and shipping -- but as others have said, the web site leaves something to be desired.

I have yet to find anything on Rockauto that the shipping didn't make it the same price as local. I did mordred some abscure MG parts from them that locals couldn't get.

I'm all in favor of buying local, but I find it difficult to be loyal to the chain stores that pass for auto parts stores these days.

If I have a big job planned, I'll order everything in advance from Rock. It takes about a week to get it in. I save about half what the chain stores charge. More importantly, Rock usually has a better choice of parts; I'll go for the premium parts and still get them cheaper than the standard stuff carried locally.

I just ordered everything to do shocks and struts on my wife's Acadia. Although the Moog parts came from Rock, all the Delco parts were shipped direct from three different GM warehouses. The two struts came from different warehouses!

Typically, not even close. You have to have enough of an order to overcome the shipping, but as an example, a front wheel bearing for a car is $80 locally. You can get it for 35-40 on Rockauto, and pay $30 to have it shipped. In that case it's not worth it, but it still didn't cost anymore. If you buy 2 bearings, it now cost 115 vs 160 locally. So even with expensive shipping, you saved $45. Rockauto typically has a consolidated shipping option now, which is normally around $15, which means on that order, you'd save $60. I've been using Amazon.ca as I can. They don't have a ton of stuff, but when I redid the steering on the truck, I was able to order all MOOG made in USA parts from Amazon.ca for the same price as RockAuto, and not have to pay any shipping. Shipping on steering parts would be expensive being they're fairly heavy. A few years ago I ordered an injector assembly for a vortec 350. It was ~260 from rockauto, $740 locally. The price has come up quite a it, It's now 334 on Rockauto, but amazon.ca has it for 354, which is the way I'd be going. The annoying thing about amazon is they don't have a way to search parts by make or model, so you have to go to rockauto, get your part number, type it into amazon and see if they have it.

Used to buy a lot from them

Last march I bought two hub assembly's from them.

Tore truck down and went to assemble and found one of the preload nuts was cracked (timken) called them to get the torque specs for the nut, they called Timken and could not get any info, put truck back together.

Received replacements (Raybestos) and installed. 4 months later truck was not handling right. Jacked it up at work and the drivers side wheel could be rocked back and forth 2-3". Had it towed home tore it down and both front hubs were gone (4000mi) emailed them and told them I could not wait for the return/reship period and why would I want the same problem again.
He said go ahead and order what I wanted and the refund would go into my Pay Pal account instead of their usual in store credit.

When you order from them you usually get 3 or 4 choices, I usually go middle of the road which was Raybestos.

Anyway not wanting to do this job a 3rd time (I knew I would just get madder and madder) I took it to a friend that has a shop. He told me that other than motorcraft the only other manufacturer is SKF. All ot the others are farmed out.

Got the job done and sent the junk back, they gave me a in store credit. Called them up and explained that I was to get a PP credit. He said that was only if I bought THE 3RD SET FROM THEM, and the in store credit was good for 5 years I told him it would be longer than that before I bought any thing from them. Still working on it

"He told me that other than motorcraft the only other manufacturer is SKF."

NOT sure, but the last I heard "Motorcraft" doesn't manufacture ANYTHING, just "rebrands". Do you have any reliable info that contradicts that, Dune?

Thanks everyone for your answers. Just ordered 24 Wix filters from Rockauto saved over $100 including shipping compared to NAPA which are Wix Filters. GOOD DEAL

So far, I have bought rebuild parts for brake calipers from them. Locally, the parts to repair a caliper are simply not available. You either buy a whole caliper or go without.
Unfortunately, my GF's son's car needed a caliper rebuild. I ordered the parts from Rock auto. Freight was more than the parts. Seal kit and piston came from different locations, so the freight ended up costing more than the parts. It was still a saving, as a replacement caliper was much more money.

I also order filters from fleetfilter.com. much cheaper than local, and they still wix/Napa, Baldwin, and possibly a few other big brands.

Do You?

I have had good luck with them. If you just want the lowest cost price and shipping then check the box in right hand corner "chose for me lowest cost" then check every part that will fit. The system will combine shipping and parts cost to find the total lowest cost. Saves a lot when ordering many different parts.
