Under Sink Water Heater

I'm installing a mini kitchen in my garage that will only be used a couple of times a year. I need a under sink water heater. I only have 110v, 20 amp outlet near by.

Do those "On Demand" heaters really work? Or should I install a "Tank Type" water heater. IE; 2 gal, 5 gal.

Thanks for any replies :)

I would go with a small tank type. We have a 4 gallon near our second bathroom, in series with the main water heater that is 75 feet away. It gives us hot water quickly and there is very little change during a shower. The cold water in the line must just blend with the hot and you don't even notice it.

I've got this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0048EJXXY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it requires 240V with 30A breaker. I see some that use 110V 30A, but they show lower customer ratings. As for mine, I can promise you I'll never get another one!! The ONLY way it has a chance of delivering hot water is if the incoming fresh water is at the Summer temps. Ground water here is just too cold for it to work well. And even when it's working well, there are massive temperature fluctuations, as though someone is playing with the faucet, or maybe flushing a toilet or something. It's nuts!!

Shop was built in 1980 put 5 gal. 110 volt water heater in with a plastic laundry sink, been there ever since gets good workout when I'm out there a lot and when she wash's dogs. Did have to put in new element in early 90's.

Tom we have 1 in our food processing plant. It provides all the hot water we can use. If you get 1 that is too small you will have the problems as described. You need a professional electrician to wire it. This 1 is made in Germany. She loves it

I did mine with a 2 gal. and put it on and off with a light switch. That way I can turn it on when I want and it only takes a few minutes to heat the water. When i leave I just turn off the lights and water heater at the same time....Jim in N.M.

Russ, I did the same thing in the kitchen.

I put a 5 gallon heater under the sink, plumbed in series with the main water heater, which is at the other end of the house.

Now we get instant hot water at the sink and dish washer. By the time the 5 gallon would be out of hot water, the main heater is supplying plenty more. Works great!

My shop water heater is a 120 volt 5 gal. unit. I hooked it up with a spring wound timer. When i go into the shop I just put about 12 minutes on the timer. It heats up enough to wash your hands a few times, and as you need more just crank up more. My hot water does not go through a mixer valve so I don't want it real hot. With this set up no wasted electricity.
