Inexpensive parts washer pump ideas

My parts washer has one of those stupid pneumatic diaphragm pumps. I spent over $60 on new diaphragms (old ones rotted) and countless hours taking that pump apart and putting it together trying to get it to run. I finally did, and it worked great.

Went to use it last night; it cycled three times, and quit. I'm done with it.

Considering I only paid $30 for the entire parts washer to begin with, and a new one only costs $100 WITH the pump, what can I use to pump solvent with that won't break the bank?

Submersible pump won't work. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

At least I have no idea how I would adapt it. The diaphragm pump is external and sucks the fluid out of the bottom of the barrel through a hose.

Massive overkill, but it will work, a power steering pump, gear it slow. A used pump will last for years and solvent will not hurt it.

I use a pump out of a safety Kleen washer I have a extra will try and get the info off it for ya... Its been used daily for 35 years no problem with it so never needed the spare..

i saved the pump out of a ge clothes washer with the intension of making a parts washer . the pump is all one unit with 120 v brushless motor. they sure will empty a washing machine in a hurry. a used one should be easy to find . the whole thing will fit in the palm of your hand .

I built my parts washer 20 years ago with an old well pressure tank and some left over sheet steel and a
little angle iron. I bought a parts washer pump from Northern Tools for $50. Still works just fine.

The pumps used with water have rubber parts that won't work long with a petroleum based solvent. I use
kerosene in my parts washer, no fumes, cleans grease & oil great. The water based cleaners/solvents I've
heard many complaints. Mineral spirits works well too but Big Money to change out

The trouble you will find is most cheap parts washer pumps are actually made to pump water based cleaning solutions. The ones made for flammable liquids start out at about $85 and go up. The new parts washer tank you looking at for $100 would be for water base solvents too.
