Hydraulic jack Oil

(quoted from post at 08:57:00 04/03/17) Any need to buy this or just use hydraulic oil?

There are many different types of hydraulic oil. Commonly available "universal hydraulic oil" most likely is NOT correct for your jack. Automatic transmission fluid would be closer, but there are different types of that also. Best bet is to use what the manufacturer recommends.

In a pinch, pretty much any type of auto trans fluid will work.

I have been putting trans/hyd. fluid (JD hy-gard) in mine since the jack oil can ran dry. seems to be working fine.

Place I used to work had a lot of hand pallet jacks I maintained.

I found out if I put ATF in them, the operators would complain about them being slow to go all the way down when the weather was cold.

Started using jack oil and they worked better.

That jack oil isn't that expensive and a little goes a long way. I would rather not worry if I was using the right oil or not. Anyway once you start using jack oil the jack is getting pretty close to going to the dump.
