Fabbed an engine lift bar

I have several engine jobs coming up so I decided to fab up a lift bar with a tilt mechanism so it would be easier to install the engines. I want to apologize for the blurry pics, and some I took didn't show up in my pics. Guess it's time for a new camera.

Anyway, I started with a 2x2x3/16 tube about 20" long.

The slider is 2 1/2x3/16 square tube. The lift have is 3x1/2 flat bar. I welded it at na angle so it wouldn't pull up and deform the tube causing binding.

The screw is from an old car scissor jack that I salvaged from an old car jack.

The screw is stretched with some 3/8x1 1/2 flat.

The ends are more 3x1/2 flat.

Here is what it looks like hanging on the loader.

Hope to try it out tomorrow pulling my 1030 motor.

Wow, great job, I hope it serves you well, looks to
me like it will. You should patented it and sell them.

That's my new 3/8 milwaukee impact wrench. I liked the 1/2" so much I added a 3/8" this year. Going to get a 3/8 ratchet too. I did wreck the charger this week tho, got grinder dust in it and shorted it so gotta get a new one of those.

I'm gonna be a contrarian, when those where $150, making one for a couple of bucks of scrap and a couple of hours of time made sense.

But when you can buy one for $20 and hang it on the 2 ton cherry picker you're buying at the same time for $75, I find it hard to justify spending the time. And of course it's only possible if you're already tooled up to make it.....which is a bunch of cash in it's own right....

I used to build my engines, but when I could get better quality parts, all the labor and machining for about what parts and machine time cost, I let them do the whole thing.
