I need a new floor jack. occasional use tire changes brake jobs on cars. Guessing they are made in
china these days? I have an old sears that is not working took it apart but I think the sealing
seat or something is shot not worth fixing. Any suggestions ?

I bought a 3.5 ton Matco jack off the tool truck that comes by at work. 350 dollars plus tax. Then a week later I go to Harbor Freight. Guess what--- Same jack without the Matco sticker. I measured distances and diameters of almost every joint on it.

Yup, same jack at $200 less than what I donated to the tool truck. Either pony up and buy an American Hein-Warner or just buy a new jack from china every couple of years.

Rant off, Beagle

No idea what a good jack is now but I gave $99. for a Sears jack in about 1983, best thing I ever bought there. At work we had a couple that looked just like it, one branded Astro and the other might of been a Napa.

Costco sell an Arcon jack made in China for an importer. I bought a 3.5 ton jack from them 5 years ago; I'm impressed with the quality. Costco now sells a 3 ton Arcon jack for $100, that looks just like the jack that have.

I bought a cheap Chinese one 20yrs. ago and it still works but not as well as it used to it takes twice as many pumps as it should but it stays up once there. I bought a better one from Napa with a quick foot pump as well as the long handle but the old one goes about 4" higher. I paid well under $100 for the old one and it worked as it should for the first 10 yrs. or more.

When the old 5 ton floor jack went to heck at the dealer, we got a new 5 ton with the option of using air or pumping handle. That was the very handiest jack I have ever used. You could lift parts into place and guide them at the same time. Worked great on wide front ends of tractors etc. Even the belly pumps on the old M's that I still got into once in a while. Then we got a 17 ton jack also which took the strain out of the heavy work. I know, expensive , but if you do a lot of work by yourself, on a hourly rate , well.

i have always had expensive floor jacks here at the shop. mac, snap on ect. get 3 or 4 years out of them. a rebuild was half the cost of the jack. our local tire shop started buying arbor freight low-pro floor jacks, on sale about 80 dollars. we have been slowly replacing ours the the harbor freight ones.

I purchased a Powerzone 380044 3 Ton Aluminum and Steel Garage Jack 3 years ago and have been very happy with it. It was one of the highest rated jacks on Amazon. It was around $140. It is very well made and has a lift range of 4 inch to 18-1/4 inch.

I bought a Sears floor jack on sale. Using it was kind of scary, after I bought the Arcon jack I didn't want to sell it and have contingent liability so I donated it to Goodwill anonymously to break the chain of liability.

I had a tire shop for 22 years. Started out with a Matco jack that we literally ran the Steel Wheels off it. We wore them completely out and replaced them. Some one stole it one day, probably had it 10 years. We tried the harbor freight ones and they would last a week or two if we were lucky. Bought a few from Gray Products and usually got several years out of them. Wound up with a couple from Snap on. I stopped by the shop 1 day last week and the guys are still using the snap on jacks daily. I've been gone from there 11 years.

I got a real sweety at a swap sale a year and a half ago twice the size of the ones shown here. There are 7 good sized ones on my local craig's list. A good condition used beats a little cheap Chinese any day in my book.

I have a couple of Blackhawks I bought 25 years ago that are still working. My brother stole the Hein-Warner I bought in '72 and as far as I know, it's still working.

Other brother still has a Chinese one he never returned from 30 years ago. Probably still working.

I hate my family....LOL

I went to Northern in Jan. and got their Arcan 3 1/2 ton, XL35 model. It's done good so far and the best part at the store was the clerk used a $20 coupon someone had left!! I got the jack and extended warranty for $127!! It's a bit heavy if you have to put it in the truck, but it works!!

For non-pro use a Chinese jack will do. Just don't go too cheap and get a $50 one. It's amazing what they'll try to pass for lifting equipment these days.

(quoted from post at 07:24:08 04/01/17) what ever floor jack I have I still use jack stands before I get under anything

I can't imagine anyone crawling under a vehicle on a jack with no stands.
