What are they thinking ???

I have an old Johnson Seahorse 4 HP boat motor that I haven't used in years and I want to start using it again this summer. I need 2 Champion 5861 Spark plugs for it so I went to the old stand-by ebay. One site had a set of 8 for $251.11, another site had a set of 8 for $199.74 !!!!!!! What are they made of ??? I ordered a set of 2 for $5.99 with free shipping.

About like this deal... I need 2 little stainless steel cover latches for a Carlon electrical equipment/junction box, simple and not very big, Carlon #SSLS.

They clip over a plastic "nub" on the box and latch the cover shut.
Photo is like TWICE actual size.

$55 to $120 EACH, on-line (anybody know of a more reasonable source?)

Well, they could be lie some of the guys I see selling chainsaws on Ebay that think anything that might possibly be considered an antique automatically requires moving that decimal point a few places to the right.....

As of last night, I didn't see any reasonable on ebay. I need that specific part #, as they clip or "dovetail" to the box, no screws are used.

I have a neighbor working on a Franklin aircraft engine. Some parts still available from Poland. Requires 8 spark plugs at $50 each.

I believe it's something to do with not wanting to cancel their listing if they are out of stock or on vacation or something. I've seen other ridiculous prices like that and the listing will say 150 of them sold. If you look at the previous sales, the price will be more or less in line with what other sellers are getting.

I see that a lot on Ebay.

I guess some people throw that out there, hoping someone will bite. Some cleverly disguise it as $2.99 + $399 shipping! There is one regular seller that specializes in electronics. They are competitively priced on their big ticket items, but they also sell small components with a BIG minimum! Order one 50 cent item, they make up the rest in ridiculous shipping charges! Always beware!

But a side note on your little outboard...

Might want to pop the flywheel and take a look at the coils. They are known for cracking from old age. Once cracked the spark will be weak, hard to start, quick to foul plugs. Years ago they could be bought at the auto supply, I suspect someone is still supplying them aftermarket.

Those were great little motors! Hope you will cherish it and keep it running!

Ive seen 6" vice grips for about $100 and other items that are listed at $40 or $50 for the most part, listed at $999.00 Ebay had to change their policy on shipping as there were some that would list something at (for example) $5.00 and $25 shipping. Then they would only be paying a selling fee for $5.00. Now fees are on total (selling and shipping).

Yup, I have a Johnson like that with the bad coils. Gotta get around to fixing it someday....

Looks like a link-lock. Take a look here and see if you can find the one you need: https://www.southco.com/en-us/k2-k3-k4-k5.

I'm pretty sure it is a 76. I just went with what it had when I bought it with an old Larson boat. If I'm using the wrong plugs please let me know.

Looks like a J6 to me.

Most old outboards you buy will have the wrong plugs in them. People stick whatever they have on hand, usually from a lawnmower or motorcycle - completely wrong for a 2 stroke motor.
