So I need a thumbscrew for my eBay machinist level /protractor . Looks like a 6-32 ,go to Ace hardware -not 6-32 so I ASSume it is 6-40 . Order 6-40 allen screws , as close as I could get to a thumbcrew. Too big . The thread is a #5-40. I didn't even know there was a #5-40 size. Good thing screws are cheap. { Everything wrong you order gets heavy criticism from the wife].

I've gone through size hunting like that just to find out it was metric.

I think I have some 5-40 socket head capscrews maybe 5/8 or so long. Would send you a couple if it would help.

If you go to FastenAll you can pick up one of those nut and bolt tools. Blue color and made out of plastic Maybe 4x6 inches. I think Lowes has them too. Very handy tool to keep in the top drawer of you tool cabinet.

I need a screw for a Starrett 6" sliding caliper they were like $12 plus shipping I had a china one that was junk took a screw out of it, it fit perfect
