LENOX Metal Max

Had a little time before my doctor appointment this afternoon and decided to drop in at Lowes to gawk at the new power tools.
There was a jim-dandy dogbone wrench that I had to pry my fingers off.

What held my attention the most was a display of 4 1/2" cutoff wheels for my angle grinder.
It has impregnated diamond bits in the cutting surface. $14.98 + tax per each.
Said these will last much longer than regular wheels.

Depending on my projects I can spend $15.00 on regular wheels in eight to nine months.
So one should last me for some time.

Wonder if anyone has seen it or tried them.

Have never heard of them. Thanks for the heads up. Just got a new plasma cutter so hoping I won't have to spend so much time with the grinders. Too far from anyplace to mess with oxy/acet.

Yes. They are great and far exceeded my expectations. I run the 6" on my metabo. The best part in my opinion is there is no dust like a typical cutoff wheel and they mantain there size. They do seem to cut a tad bit slower but nothing major. I know at this point i am saving money because I would have burned through more dollars in cuttoff disc than I spent on the Metal Max.

Steve, great video. Looks a lot like the discs meant for tile, which I have some of.

Have also seen saws out there that use a metal-cutting carbide-tipped blade; looks like a wood-cutting blade but isn't.

I have tried them and like them for a few reasons:
they don't get smaller as you use them
so far they seem to last a while (haven't worn one out yet but I don't use it every day either)
one drawback is that they are louder (but you are wearing hearing protection anyway right?
they also bounce around a little more than the fiberglass ones do when starting a cut if you are just barely touching the metal and lining up.(have to be firm with them at the start)

My luck, I'll break the cutoff wheel. When Rural King has a sale on 6 inch cutoff wheels I buy a box, use them on my 4.5 grinder. The 6 inch ones last longer than the and the same cost as 4.5. A dollar each for dewalt cutoff wheels. Regular price is $2. I Don't leave home with out them along with cordless grinder for repair work away form power. I also carry 3 corded grinders in truck. One for a cutoff wheel, one with a wire brush and the other with a grinding wheel. I rigged up a dimmer switch to plug the wire brush into so I can vary the speed. A wire brush at full speed is a good way to lose skin.

Let us know how the metal max works out. Think it will last longer than 15 wheels?

I just happened to be in a Lowes last fall when they were setting those out for for the first time. I thought what the heck, I have wasted more then $15 several times in the past and bought one. Doesn't get used every day but has been used a lot. Guessing it has out lasted 8-10 of the thin cut off type disks that it replaced? Bought another one for replacement but first one is still in service, I'm sold on them.
