My last day of turning wrenches

Hello,
I kept the calendar in my tool box top. I circled the
last legal set day of separation. Although I had worked the
day before. Sure seems like yesterday, time sure flies!!

March 1, 2008. After 40 years, I found out they would pay me to not come in. I like that better than all the mandatory overtime and the new plant manager with a real attitude problem. After my discussions with corporate HR manager, he did not last another month.

And like most will tell you, busier now than before retirement. My current "boss" keeps me busy with honey-do jobs. If I start catching up, M-I-L boss adds hers to the list. At least they feed me good. ( and from the looks of things, too good most of the time)

Hopefully, June 30 this year. Wife turns 65 that day and I told her few years ago that she had to work to 65 (Medicare). Every Friday, we clink our wine glasses at dinner and count off another week.

(Actually, I just told her this weekend that she has to work at least 1 day past her 65th. She's only been in her current job a couple of years and is not 100% vested in the employer-match portion of her 401k. Read the fine print on the benefit package over the weekend and found that it would take 5 years to become 100% vested OR she's fully vested after 65. No sense quitting a day early and losing thousands of dollars).

You need to find out when her company considers her to reach age 65. Social Security considers you to reach the age the day before your birthday.

10-14-94, retired after 26 yrs. was facing a forced transferr, chose instead to accept early out incentives and retire. However at age 47 I was too young to retire so I changed profession a little. 10-15-94 employed with new company for 16 yrs. Strange but 10-15-2011 I retired for the final time.

Hello PAGlenn,

Hello Pete black,

I left for the same reason, with more then one year full pay, among some other perks. Went and changed career and worked for a few more years, then called it quits for good,

GUIDO.

Hello JMOR,

When I quit working for a large Co. One of the guys said " If you come back in ten years nothing will have changed" good luck to you! I quit and started my own business, and this April 1st. the Co. will be 40 yrs.old. My Son still runs it and makes a "Nice" living. My Motto has always been,If I have to be a Jack^^S all my life,I might as well be my own jack^^S! Jim in N.M.

My daddy was self employed in the restaurant business, before the day of the big chains, and efficient product distributors and this and that that make the business profitable in today's world. That was lesson enough for me and I haven't looked back.

Did I miss something?

I'm 82 and I haven't even thought about retiring. I'm having too much fun at what I'm doing. I have a sister three years older than I, and I'm not sure I'd want to try to keep up with her.
