Electrical Plugs

These bumps fit into the holes so that the outlet can grip the plug's prongs more firmly. This prevents the plug from slipping out of the socket due to the weight of the plug and cord. It also improves the contact between the plug and the outlet.

Also, as I remember in 4H, you could put a mini padlock in the hole to prevent others from using an appliance.

They are retention holes used in the insert injection molding process to index and assure depth of the internal components when vinyl is injected. I have made the mold cavities for Ridge Tool company. Jim

At ace hardware they sell drop cords that lock into those holes so cord can not come loose. Works great with vac or weedeater, anything that cor can come loose.

Menards sells the ends that grips the cord. You have to push in an a button to plug the cord in and push again to release the cord. About $6. I made up some extension cords for hedge trimmer, power tools, electric chainsaw. They are nice.
