my wife .is diabectic she has medicare.. medicare pays for meter and supplies. I think medicare asks for bids about every year. as a result +they change brands often. so you get a diferent brand. my wife now has 4 or 5 perfectly good meters. is there a company or some group that could use free meters thanks

My wife goes through the same thing every couple years through her employer's insurance. She doesn't have to test every day at this point so the meters seldom have more than 1 or 2 bottles of strips through them when insurance won't cover that particular strip anymore. To your question, I don't know of anyone and we trash can them when replaced so there is no confusion when she (or someone with her) needs to use one.

I got my first meter over ten years ago and still use it. It's still accurate, why replace it? Call your local office of the ADA. They may have a program to provide meters to those less fortunate, like they do with cel phones.

I had made a post earlier (the first reply) but it is now gone. I had provided a link but now no longer remember what it was. However, I also mentioned that you should consider asking your local pharmacy or clinic, as they often know of programs where such supplies are needed.

Because the test strips are so profitable, the companies that make the glucometers basically give them away. Not much interest in used meters.

II have been on medicare going on 6 years and wife 3 years and Use Accu-Chek Aviva meters and medicare has never told us to change meter companies .

thanks for the replies. I think I typed before my brain said go. medicare did not tell me to get a new one. medicare said they would not pay for the strips we were using, but they would pay for a diferent brand of strips.of course you need the meter that mathes the the strips.[another waste of money] of course strips/and meters are not as expensive as they use to be; its a small thing I guess, but they are perhaps millions of people using these things

If your doctor writes a scrip for meter medicare and your D plan should pickup most of if not all the cost of meter and D plan picks up 100% of test strips.

Same here. That being said, I'm only 'allowed' one test strip a day, as my diabetes is not I the needs insulin stage. Januvia works for me, after the MUCH cheaper Metformin began damaging my Kidneys..
