I bought a place a couple of years ago and the previous owner left some tools behind. One of which is an electric impact and the other day I checked and it ran fine with no load so I took it to the shop. A couple days later I got it out to use and half inch drive sockets were too small and 3/4 drive were too big! It measures 5/8" and I think it's Ingersol.

I think 5/8 drive was sort of an anti-theft size . Too weird to steal from work. I think there was other odd ones too.

I have one like that sitting in the parts shed.
Can't recall where I bought it but 20 years ago you could still buy the adaptor to go from 5/8 to 1/2.

As mentioned, you can get an adapter, but, in general, using adapters on impacts lessens their effectiveness as the extra joint absorbs some of the impact force. That may not be a problem in casual use, or if you have a more powerful impact to take care of heavy-duty chores, but it's something to consider. Another solution would be to buy 5/8 impact sockets. Link below is one source, and I'm sure there's others, including the usual Ebay route.
5/8 impact sockets

(quoted from post at 11:53:57 03/04/17) When my dad was in the Air Force they were using 5/16 socket sets to deter theft - my dad stole some anyway!
