HF camera system?

Has anyone tried the 4 channel/2 camera surveillance system from Harbor Freight? They are on sale for $200. I am tied of thieves. I have had radiators taken out of equipment.

I looked at them today. The biggest complaint was that the cameras were powered by a transformer and needed to be plugged into a 120V outlet and the cords weren't very long, thus requiring a lead cord or electrical improvements to make them functional. Other than that the reviews were good.

I have a Uniden 2 camera system. The signal is wireless to the remote but you do need power to the cameras. When the camera detects something the monitor beeps and the view from that particular camera appears on the remote and a beep is also sent to a smart phone. You can also view the cameras from a smart phone. The monitor has loop recording to a SD card. The moniter also records sounds and the cameras act as speakers so you can talk to someone thru the monitor. I had to delete the smart phone function because my wife was always checking to see what I was doing while she was at work. LOL!

I bought a cheap system from Ebay about 5 years ago.

It worked great in daylight. But in the dark, when needed, was nonexistent.

Sent it back, full refund because they claimed it would work with infrared light emitting cameras.

If I were going to invest in another system, I would go to a retail shop, talk to someone in the know about what you want to do, and see a real life system in use.

It takes a good system to be able to see faces, read license numbers, recognize vehicles. Those are the things you need to be able to prosecute.

When I found out what that type system cost, it wasn't worth it.

So if an animal walks in front of camera you get a beep on smartphone in the middle of night?

I have a motion sensor in pole, sometimes I get a false alarm in the middle of the night. I'm thinking it might be a bird or mouse. Real Pain in the ankle.

As for me, if I'm worried about someone taking it, I lock it up in pole barn or garage. I leave nothing of value outside and have security lights in front of all barn and garage doors.

I also have an old motion sensor that no longer works in front of a door. Perhaps fake cameras would work too. Just making someone think they are being watched may work.

George, only if you want it. I just bought a 16 channel, 8 camera HD system for under $500. It has options galore on how to set it up. I can watch the cameras live remotely, I can set up email alerts or just let it record (continuously or via motion detect).

My cameras have never picked up a animal. The cameras have a sensitivity setting and you can block areas you don't want the camera to record. I have mine mounted ten feet above the ground. The beep function to the smart phone can be turned off when ever you want. The system will still record and store the video, time and date of the activation.
