I bought this pressure washer 3 years ago from Northern Tool, and I've been quite pleased with it while it worked. The good thing about it was supposed to be that it can
be dismantled to work on it. Is there somewhere I can send this pump to be repaired, or maybe buy a new one? There are some replacement pumps on eBay that are not Cat
3, would they work? They advertise pressures of 3000 lb. I don't think my sprayer had that much pressure.

I'm not sure what you mean by cat3 pump.

There are Cat brand Triplex pumps used on pressure washers.

Some are direct-mount to the engine, others are belt-driven.

Cat brand pumps are repairable, but a lot depends on what the problem is.

Loss of pressure (common complaint) may not be a pump problem, but an unloader valve that is sticking open.

What model pump do you have, and what is the problem you are having?

It started tripping the 20 amp GFCI when I turn it on. So, I plugged it in to a 20 amp GFCI outlet without the GFCI on the cord, and the motor turns, but the pump just chatters. The pump model is Cat 2DX direct drive. I am looking at the parts diagram. The unloader is described as modular(See Indiv. Parts), but I can't find any individual parts listed. What does a modular unloader look like?

Where are you located woodbutcher. I use Capco ind. in Monona,IA they are good with fixing my powerwasher and reasonabe pricewise.

I located the unloader. I also found a kit to rebuild it for $150. I might be better off buying a new motor for it. If this one is just sticking, is it likely I can unstick it? It hasn't had anything run through it besides water.

If the unloader will come apart, open it up and take a look, it can probably be cleaned up and made to work.

As for the breaker tripping, it is probably over amping the motor because it wont unload. Once the unloader is working, it will probably be OK.

If you have an Amprobe, you can check the motor amps against the FLA on the tag. Check it with the trigger pulled. If it's to high, could be the tip is too small or partially clogged.

Yes, but I bought it 3 years ago, so the warranty is expired. If I take it to them, they'll replace the pump. I might be better off buying a new washer.
